My boy is home.  He got in at 12PM.  Unfortunately he already went out to "friend hop".  I am so happy though.  Good luck to everyone still waiting.  The wait is torture!

Just heard from my son. He is at O'Hare eating munchies in the USO. His flight leave at 12:45.

He was up at 0300. Said he didn't sleep a wink last night.

Jane, in dry dock, there is still work to do.  He could end up on a work crew, or be sent to more training, even a short C school.  Sometimes they are sent to another command temporarily, such as base security.  There's a lot of variation from ship to ship.

got maybe 4 hours sleep- heading to work soon. Got a text from Paul- 5:00am their time. He's at the airport and said roads are fine. He's hoping to get the 6am flight. He texted me just now to say he's on stand by! I hope I can keep my mind on my work! If he does come in early i will be at work- but I'd rather have him home than sitting in an airport waiting!

Praying for all your sailors to have a safe journey home.

IC- I'm sorry your son won't be there at home but the months really do fly by. It's been 8 months for us!

IC mom. I am sorry your Sailor won't be home with you this Christmas.  I hope it won't be too long before you get to see him.

I just talked to my son and he says it is dry and clear. No wind and no ice, so there shoudn't be any problem with everyone getting to the airports safely. I wish everyone a happy holiday and a safe trip home for all the sailors!  I wish mine were coming home but he'll be home in a few months so I can wait. It was great to see him in November at PIR and I've already mailed his Christmas gifts. Happy Holidays everyone!

Funny, I don't recall Exodus as being a big deal, I just went on leave.  Didn't have to empty my room that I recall. Guess this is one thing which has changed. I could be a little oblivious, just like an ET, huh?

Tyhe excitement is catching, even from this far away.  My nephew just reported to Groton to his first boat, he was home on leave for this past month.

I always called it Glakes.  Every base has a nickname, which can be fun.

You didn't offend me at all Dawn.  I have showed this poem to about 50 people already.  It was wonderful and such talent.  Keep them coming...after the kids go back to "Great Mistakes'.

Dawn, I have a friend who is my age and is Navy retired. She went through bc in Great Lakes and (A)school there. She used that term too.

Sandy you too.  Talked to my son on the phone today, he cannot wait to get out of GL.  I guess they probably all feel that way at this point?
