Emily... ship? LOL. We called them barracks, this whole "ship" thing is new to me, in fact, all the old sailors I know who went through Glakes think it is weird!! We used BEQ buillding numbers, which were (are?) painted on the side of the building. Been so long I don't remember the number. I can describe where it is though... On the corner of Paul Jones and Evans, across from the old ET school, same block as the chow hall.

I swear there is a time warp in place, because that sounds EXACTLY like when I was there 30 years ago. Probably the same building too, they are still in use. I keep saying things don't change, but this is weird.

The trick is to be best buds with whoever is in charge of supplies and know where the hidden stash of TP is kept. You bet there's some in the building somewhere! Funny, they'll never run out of floor wax.

When Tyler called today, I asked about the heat on the Essex. He said they do have one system that heats the whole ship, but they don't run it very often. On weekends they very rarely run it.

They should ask if they can work on courses for advancement, such as military leadership. These are Navy courses which they have to complete anyway. I don't know if they are far enough along to do them, I know I got mine out of the way early.

No, he couldn't take his cell phone back after the weekend of PIR, and he just said they would be moving over to A school and he should know more this Wednesday (today), as far as his address and whether or not he could come home for Christmas. So, I'm anxiously awaiting his call! I heard a sweet Christmas song on my lunch break and had tears in my eyes just thinking about Christmas without him here.... but I just have to remember to breath and pray!

That's a great idea Davidsmom... I'll mention that to Thomas IF he ever calls me! I've got to learn patience still!

Thomas better get to asking then! He likes to fly under the radar, but if he wants letters and cell phone and CHRISTMAS, he best get me that address! We're still praying that he'll get to come home for Christmas! Hoping to hear something today. Have a great day everyone!

Cindy22: My son has been on the Essex since September. He say there is no heat on the ship at all. He's a southern Mississippi boy!

RodWifey, there is a wives discussion for ETs and FCs in school at Great Lakes, even if he is not one of those rates, you should be able to get good answers there. If niothing else thay can tell you the minimum length of school required to live ashore with dependents. Yes, Heather and Smoke are there.
