Since I will be transitioning to a more passive role, I put together a guideline on meet and greets. See above discussion. Besides being a delightful person, BHappy is very familiar with setting an event up.
Regards to everyone.

Sharon--
Its official, Bobby won't be home for the holidays, he knows when they'll be back in port, but cannot say yet, so I still don't know when he will be home, January or February or March??? I really hope before March.

Didn't make myself clear. Sorry. Almost all meet and greet are open to anyone who wants to come and is in the neighborhood. The Retreat for young wives, etc. was a one time thing - I mentioned it only because it was at a base and tips about communications.
I just got back from one in San Mateo County. It's always wonderful to see old friends.
Good luck.

Danelle, what a great idea.
Back in July, Quiltlady and I hosted a retreat for Young Wives, Fiancees and Girlfriends. We had it at Travis Air Force Base. We rented adjoining 2 bedrm, 2bath suits because we stayed overnight. I recalled Quiltlady mentioning that the BLQ normally has some rec facility. She got much of the food right on base (snacks, drinks, veggie platter) and we order pizza to be delivered. Or just do it at one of the eateries right on base.

1) REMEMBER TO LET THE PEOPLE AT THE FRONT GATE KNOW WHERE THE MEET AND GREET WILL BE LOCATED ON BASE - even better have some flyers available with map and phone number at the gate 2) if you think the place is hard to find on base, borrow an open house sign (s) from one of your local realtors and tape something over it with "Navy For Moms Meet and Greet" to be placed right near the place of the event (you may need to get permission). 3) have one person's cell always on in case someone needs directions.

We had a young wife who drove 45 minutes to Travis, went around looking for the meet and greet, only to be frustrated because she couldn't find us. It was very last minute. We had turned off our cells since the meeting has started. We missed her voice mail message and her posting on N4M. Needless to say, we were upset too.

I could hear the F-18s in the distance roaring from AT&T Park back to Lemoore after the flyover to start the World Series.

My sailor's sub is off to parts unknown somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. This is one of their short excursions to test equipment in preparation for another long deloyment. He hope he is able to come home for Xmas.
I am still working on selecting photos and resizing them for posting. Will post a link here once I am done. The pride you feel when you see the ships, the airplane and the sailors is unbelievable. I wished I could've bought them all dinner.
