It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Good morning! I attended PIR in Great Lakes,IL last Friday, more than willing to share what I learned if anyone is heading there in the future. So glad I was able to attend, seeing my son and all the sailors in their dress blues marching in...very emotional, take lots of tissues!!!

I will definitely read everything and share with my son. He has ran track since age 9, in high school and college. He is very physically fit. He and his friend go workout every morning. So I have no doubt he should pass the running test. He also can swim. I will see if there is anything else he will need. Thanks so much for your help.

Good Morning Django and welcome to Navy Moms. I will give you some info.

To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays after your recruit arrived to get the most likely PIR (graduation) date

But please know this can also change if for some reason he gets injured/sick/or cannot pass the FIT/RUN. I will put some sites on your my page to read thru. Welcome again glad to have you along!

Thank you so much. The only questions I have so far are. 1 My Son ships out on Feb. 27th, when is he scheduled to graduate? I have to schedule time off in advance. 2. My Son's best friend ships out on Feb. 21st and my Son on Feb. 27th. Is it likely they will be in the same group? Thanks in advance for your help.

Good Morning Freebird, welcome to the site, hope you meet many a Ladies, and if there is anything that I can help you with please ask.

I would Like to share a Daily bread Bible verse:

Isaiah 41:9-10

I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Amen!
