It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Missomd and RNmom.... Military continues as normal during a shut down. I was certainly assume this would include BC.  Also paydays are 1st and 15 of the month so if he left on the 9th, he's not actual due one until Feb 1.  Hope this helps

Rnmom...I would like to know as well. When will we know if kids are sent home from boot camp? Does this happen? Do they wait a week? I know my son who left 1/9 hasn't received first paycheck so I'm sure that will be delayed? Can anyone help with answers?

Hi there, does anyone have info related to "what happens with their ship dates if there is a 'government shutdown'?" Thanks!

Good Morning Dianab717 Glad to have you along, and you are so on point about them still being our babies. Welcome to the site.

Hi. New mom here. My son is going to BC on Feb. 8. He's one of the older ones - 27, college grad, four years of work under his belt. But "this" is his passion and he is finally pursuing it. I'm so excited for this group because moms know how to ask the right questions and get the right answers. We have learned so much from this group. I am so thankful, because at the end of the day, they are still our babies.

GAsaliormom- As Phoenixmom stated - Don’t get overwhelmed.  Trust me I know it can be overwhelming!! My SR hasn’t even left for bc yet as well. I have been on this site for awhile now, reading and taking it all in. Sometimes I just skim the posts other times I save them.  There is a lot to take in. And this journey is different for everyone, but we all have one thing in common our beloved SR.  I joined my DEP leaving in month and it was quite then became more active the closer is has gotten to leaving.  Don’t be afraid to stop following a certain group and come back later when it’s closer or when you have questions that need to be answered.

There are many great people on here who have gone through the process. Lots of help and support when needed.

Glad your on the site, enjoy it and don’t fret about it! From what I’ve expierenced - This is one big community of helpers and comforters. I am very grateful for them all!

Good luck on you and your SR’s journey!

Welcome GAsailormom, I can understand feeling overwhelmed, there is a whole lot of information but better more than none. Here is a site you can join when that time comes. But please do look at other sites, like what to bring and not bring, I will get you the sites and put them on your page.

Thank you, sometimes I feel I'm going overboard with the tears and worrying. Glad to not be alone.
