Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Recruits should go with what they have on their backs, their cell phones, and not much else. (See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....)

What will the first day be like at BC?

Comment by Phoenixmom on December 11, 2017 at 5:34pm: Hi Lisa welcome to the site, you have come to the right place, all of us Mothers have gone thru what you are feeling just know that this is Normal. and it is ok to cry. while he is home spend as much time with him as possible kiss him hug him and just have a good time with him. Your Son is choosing a Great thing to do, I want to give you a site for you and him to read so that way he knows what to expect when arriving at BC because they have changed the fitness standard.

I have heard so many things about MEPS and what to expect from “he’s going to be handed a plan ticket to it’s going to take another 3 months before he’s off to RTC.” Regardless, I sat in the car as I saw this young man confident and ready, and just wanted to bawl my eyes out BUT I could let myself. I have no idea whether this will all pan out so I just can’t! But I wanted to call someone, talk to someone, someone to cry too, that would understand....after a very long and rocky past few years, I am both extremely excited for his mature and confident decision to join the Navy, and can’t wait for him to get started, and overwhelmed with knowing it could actually happen, and very soon! My mom, my husband and even my closest friends would t understand this. I believe only another mother whose child has had a similar experience and who’s now heading off to MEPS, would understand. I’m grateful for a place to share the “sea” of emotions! GO NAVY!

Does anyone know if he will be able to call Christmas or will it be up to his drill instructor? And since he arrived yesterday 12/7 I assume the new fitness standards will not apply to him.

Get a stopwatch and start them running daily.
