Then this is the group for you!!!

We enjoy helping family member with all information or just to pass the time chatting.

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Hello.  My son arrived at Great Lakes last night!  Got my call around 1130.  Been worrying about his 1st day all day.

Sassysweet, he will not have much extra room at "A" School and he will already have his Seabag, hanging bag and black backpack to carry and has to be able to carry all of his things himself. Take things that he can add to his black backpack and don't add another piece of luggage.See the info in PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend. (That link is also in the info I previously left on your My Page.)

My son left for bootcamp last week so I'm anxiously waiting for the box and letter. I've seen that we can take their phones and some personal items (like clothes laptop etc) to them at the airport when they leave for A school. But I have a couple questions about that... 1) are they limited in how much they can take? 2) how much space will they have in A school for luggage? I'm wondering if I should take his items in a duffel bag instead?

BDunksMom, welcome to the journey. Did he enter DEP today or leave for the RTC?

Hi. New to the group. I've had two sons go through Navy boot camp already and a third about to sign up for DEP. Better late than never on joining the group. :-)

My boy will be leaving for RTC on June 5. We are so excited! Our oldest went through bootcamp 2 years ago. It is an exciting time ladies! When my son classes up, and finds out his division, I'll be contacting you so we can go through this experience together!

Comment by My Little Bird on May 29, 2017 at 4:16pm

@Sasysweet, my son is a CS. Once he gets on the bus they won't let him use the phone until he gets to RTC. Everything will be okay...just try and relax. :)
