Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

@my little bird that's what I figured as far as what he woukd wear there. His recruiter did tell me to have him take his cell phone though so he could text me up until the point he no longer can. He will be an AO. His A school is in Pensacola. What is your son's?

@Sasysweet my SR left May 1st and it was very surreal up until the day he shipped off. They won't have much time to talk on the phone during bc, but you get a few phone calls here and there. I have talked to my son twice for 1 minute each time and it was very rushed, but he sounded good. His recruiter should be able to tell you everything that he will need, but for right now its nothing. I would advise to not wear anything that he cares about to bc because they have to pay to ship the stuff back. My son wore some old shoes and opted to throw them away. It will be okay...you will battle with missing your son, but like you said, he made a good decision. What job did he pick?

I have been watching and soaking up information for several months now. Reality is setting in though... My son leaves from Sacramento for boot camp on June 7. It feels so surreal. I cry almost every day even though I try no to. I am so proud of my son and his choice but I think I have a fear and anxiety of the unknown. Not knowing when I'll be able to talk to him or see him next. I am anxious to start planning my trip for PIR, and have so many questions! What should I have my son pack for me to take for him to take to A school? Is he limited on how much he can take? How long is A school? Will he get time to come home after A school before he gets his assignment? When during A school will he find out what his assignment is? So many unknown variables!

Also make sure your recruit knows how to use the calling card. My son ate up 15 minutes of his call time at first because he had to read all the instructions and figure out how to use it

My daughter could not call home for 4 weeks because of lack of a calling card. They can buy one there but it takes time :(

Hello Everyone! My son leaves for Boot Camp July 20th. My son and I read the article "What to do the Last Month" together and I'll tell you what, I started crying! I'm super excited for him to go into the Navy, but reading that kind of made it serious! I was there with him at MEPS, he's been in DEP since December and I've been there every step of the way, but NOW it's getting real! Thank you for letting me join this group, I know I'm going to have a ton of questions in the next couple of months!

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, then be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
