It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Dmae,   There are many Moms on the Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) page that are missing there sons, you may want to join that.

Hang in there Dmae - I hear it gets easier after a bit.  My son does not leave until Nov 20 and I am sure I will be a basket case as it gets closer.

Did anyone have a sailor swear in today at Columbus Meps and leave for GL BC today? would like to connect with a couple of the families that were there seeing them off this afternoon..

My son went to MEPS today with the recruiter. We actually spent most of the day together, unexpectedly. He had to report at 11:00, but his driver had to do PT with some other recruits, so we went to lunch, came back and hung out at the office and talked with some other recruits. Finally they left about 2:40 for Sacramento. My husband and I will be there in the morning for his swearing in ceremony and watch him leave. I'm feeling good, but it is really strange to think he will not be here for a long time. Even setting the table tonight was weird. My thoughts are with all of you with that August ship date.

Codysmom & Heymomlpn, My son left this morning at 7:30 to head to KC, I got word that they were already headed to St. Louis this afternoon. Pretty neat that our boys will be together threw out all of bootcamp. I had a very rough time after I dropped him off, But just knowing that he is in good spirits and getting to know the others that are coming from KC on the bus made me feel a lot better. Hope to maybe meet some of you on Thursday.

well my son leaves first thing in the morning for MEPS at Kansas City Mo.  Then they will take him by greyhound to St louis where he will met the others that were chosen for the Cardinal Company.  The good thing is I will be able to text and call him and then see him at the St louis game on thursday so that makes it a little easier for me.  But seeing him actually leave tomorrow will be a little rough for me.  I wrote him a 3 page letter this morning and cried as I wrote every word. I still can't believe he is leaving. I have already warned my co-workers that I don't know how I will look or how I will be emotionally tomorrow after I drop him off at the recruiters office. I'm one proud momma, but boy is this going to be an emotional roller coaster for me the next few months.

Hi everyone,

My son did well on the AVSAB, he turned in his medical records last month but he has not received a call yet.  Is this typical? He is a little anxious so I'd like to be encouraging...
