Happy Birthday to your sailor Leach73! My son will be in Everett, Washinton on his 21st bday in Sept! First one away from home
Comment by Leach73 on June 11, 2014 at 10:06am

hello to all you wonderful ladies!

Today is a bittersweet day for me...June 11 is my daughter's 20th bday and this is the first time ever we are not together with her for her bday. I wish I could magically be in Norfolk today to at least hug her. Little did 20years ago that my baby girl would be a Sailor, in Norfolk, and preparing for a trip to go underway! Wow!!! So I'd like to just ask of you, my Navy sisters, to just send a bday wish sometime in your thoughts today to Leach73's sailor so that she enjoy her day and be blessed today and always.

Thanks! :)

Also, any of you ever have your Sailor go underway that have a car on base?? Did they leave their car in the parking lot on base? put in storage? or what?

My son is on the JPJ in San Diego, ship was drydocked for about a year, had barracks room the whole time..except when he had duty....  Now he's getting ready for the Hull Swap ... heading to hawaii.... Hes even more excited.... Any other JPJ moms out there??

Labornurse, I sent you a PM/connection request the other day.  Our sons no doubt know each other as it's not a large crew.  You'll have to message me your son's name and rate/division so I can check with my son.

Labornurse - I am in northern Illinois actually. I am like 25 miles west of Chicago. I wasn't aware of the northern Illinois group but I will look them up. My Sailor's first choice was San Diego but she ended up with her 3rd choice of Norfolk.

mik3tn - Nice to meet another Porter mom!! yes, my daughter def. hopes to get a room in the barracks soon and she is a dililgent worker so she hopes it doesn't go unnoticed. She is trying to stay positive and make everyday a positive experience. I'll send you friend request. :)

TwoForTheNavy - thanks! I guess as moms of girls, our worries are a little bit different.

Suwigg - i know, I am hoping she connects with other girls too and hope they stick together.

Leach73 I too am from Il. We really need to get a mom group organized in the central/southern area for support. The northern Illinois mom group is VERY active together.

Suwigg- my son too is on the RUSSELL in San Diego. He has been there since Nov. He too had a rough time adjusting to "shp life". Now has a temporary dorm and is MUCH HAPPIER. I also think once their ship is back in commission life in the Navy will improve. PM me and maybe our sailors could seek each other out.

My son was also undes for several months and then he struck for LS (Logistics).  He is much happier now.  I have also noticed it seems there is a period of time after sailors get to their ships that they all hit this low point.  It's as if they had one set of expectations and the reality isn't very close to that.  A little bit of time should help.

Leach73 You are right in telling her stay positive and have faith God know's what's right for her. My daughter has had many ups and downs with the Navy..I remember her ship painting days....I can tell you I have many days of her calling and the frustration but she also loves the Navy and continues to fight for what she wants and tell your daughter to stay determined and it will happen..Corpsman.
Believe me there have been times I wanted to call that ship and yell at people upsetting her....lol
