Oh Jan, you'll be fine. With your experience and personality why do you even have to worry. Good luck ! Its so good to have you back, sorry your mom never got to have her "jam in the frig." lol Hopefully that will bring a smile to your face thinking about that request. Ah for the simple things in life, eh?
Sherry if the Navy changes their minds (like they are doing every hour) and decide to send her to San Diego I will let you know if the stork is dropping my baby girl off at your door. lol
Kim as for Jess just saying that to make me feel better, I can honestly say-No she didn't. Jess is a really tough little girl, excuse me-young woman. She always has been more mature for her age, full of common sense and very street smart and just built tough. Not too much phases her, everthing to her is another cool adventure, except for being stuck out at Lakes this long. lol She said she doesn't care if she ever sees that place again once she leaves. I guess for her she's seen it all, done it all and its time to move on. When ever I bring up boot camp and what she went through during that she makes comments like "that was easy" or "no, I like it except for getting up so early in the morning and not getting to take a long hot shower." However when I speak of their first week at boot camp either to her or her bc friends they always say the same thing, it was a nightmare during processing week, especially the first 48 hours they were thrown there. Some even said they have blocked it out of their minds because it was so horrible. How about your sailors?
So as of this writing, we still wait to hear where she is headed next. and wait, and wait.....
The past two nights I have been reliving her bc days all over again. Been shedding a few tears as I was doing my project. My project is that when she left for the Navy, I would write down my thoughts of her for the day, right before I went to sleep every night. I marked each days posting with the number of days she had been gone and dated it. I am now in the process of typing it up so I may put it in a book form to give to her one day when I know she is prepared to read it. It was therapy for me but I also wanted to let her know how much I missed her and to let her know the daily events of each day as if she were at home. There is some funny stuff to which she will laugh but also the emotional stuff like the day I received "The Box!" Trust me I can't think about that without getting choked up. So as I am typing this boot camp memoir book, I am reliving it again and it is tearful at times. She does know that I had done this and is looking forward to reading it one day. She thought that it was pretty cool that I did it.
Ok excuse me for rambling. Sherry I have to agree with the others, it may be better to take the couple thousand and put it towards a newer or new car. I know Hyundai is running a good lease deal right now on the Sonata. The payments are $199.00 a month. I lease my vehicles and have been doing so for the past seven years. Only because I have a new car with no worries of engine trouble and the main reason-low monthly payments! On my third lease. My husband on the other hand just got a great deal on a Hyundai Sonata at the end of march when they were running a great deal on both buying and lease. He bought his for $299. down & $299. a month for 72 months. We couldn't pass that up, its a beautiful car, LOW monthly payments and little money out of pocket. How could we not take it? His dang little mercedes was starting to dollar and dollar us, I don't say nickel & dime because those dang cars are so exspensive to upkeep. We will never own one of those again.
Good luck on whatever you decide.
Kim, don't worry about the ring, you got the man and he is good to you which is what you deserve.
So Jan how is your hubby? Even in an a unfortunate event such as yours, absence should make the heart grow fonder. And with most men, they are glad we are home because if their like mine they can't find a damn thing, the house is in disaray and frankly they just can't take care of themselves like we do. lol
Enough of my babbling ladies, who's next? I have got to get my butt up on the roof and start painting the house. My hubs is afraid of heights so guess who gets the job? It's a good thing I am my fathers daughter and is used to doing things like this. Gee and I wonder where my daughter gets her personalitity? lol
Later Ladies! Oh and if any of you happen to be driving by on your way to the beach, stop by and help me paint!
Angela--so sorry for your friend..:( have a safe trip..
Kim, did you find an engagement ring? Bree was up yesterday and i was looking at hers. Its beautiful. I started thinking about you and shopping for the ring and i realized i didnt know if you picked one out yet.
Bree has been shopping for her and Maxs apartment. She is planning on moving there next month. I was getting ready to move my mom into an apartment back here in PA, and i now have no use for all the items i had bought her, so i just gave them to Bree. The girl has bought TWO sets of plates/dinnerware..!! Then she said she needs 'everyday' dinnerware (corelle), i have no idea what they are going to do with it all. I try to say (as nicely as i can) that they dont really need that much, and she may want to spend some of that money on something else....but she's going to do it anyway. I realize that shes excited, young, and wants everything brand new..but i hope she takes my advice. Once they move in...she will be asking herself what the heck she was thinking and want to take them back to the store.
ANYWAY>>>i hope you all have a good morning. Wish me luck today ladies!! I have a JOB INTERVIEW at 12:00 this afternoon. I havent worked in 10 years, and it had been years before that job. I helped my husband with his painting business (bookwork/ordering/invoicing)...im so nervous..lol!
Hey Ladies, headed to Daytona Beach Fl. for my friend's step-dad's funeral....so, I'll have to catch up later....love yall and have a wonderfully blessed day...
Janet~~I noticed the same thing about the dryer fortune when my kids started using debit cards too! LOL too funny. And you are right about the sister thing...we do have the military thing in common...hoping it works.
Sherry~~Janet is right, you might be better with a new car for a few thousand. Cars and computers..they are great when they work.
Thanks Sherry..you all have been MORE than wonderful!
WOW!! a few thousand?? you might be better off buying another car..lol Just like when my printer runs out of ink...its cheaper to go buy a new printer. Thats awesome that your daughter graduated at the top of her class! GOOD for her...I bet you never thought you would wish for her NOT to be the best..haha! This is a perfect example of how we have to accept that this is their life now and they are starting to make their own decisions...
Mamabear---Nathan is SO cute..did you see the thread on FB where we were talking to him? im sure he thinks there's something wrong with us...LOL! Poor kid...he'll probably never comment again..:)) Im positive you can visit him in school.
Kim-I just spent the week with my sisters, and we are VERY close. BUT>>>we had our first arguments while in AZ. Emotions were high, and we were getting on each others nerves ( i realized they are both crazy..lol) My oldest sister is 8 years older than me, we didnt get to really know each other until i was in my late 20's, but now we are best friends. Im sure that since your sister deals with the military, that it may bring you closer together. Its a common ground that you both share now..:))
Angela and kelly---i used to find a fortune in the dryer, and i always kept it..but then my kids started to use their debit cards for everything, so there was never any change to be found after that... damn debit cards...interfering with my money making..haha!
Janie--i was telling Max today about Jess still being in GL's...he couldnt believe it! I hope you get to see her soon. When you do...we are going to celebrate!!! I'll bring the champagne...haha!!
Hello my NAVY fam! Jan, honey welcome back! I posted on FB but not on here... I am so sorry, but so glad you and your sisters got to your mom before she passed on to GOD's glory! Lots of love, hugs and prayer sent your way!
Well, my girl did get to choose where she'd want to be stationed first ... (I am sooo bummed)... she was initially told she would be stationed right here in Port Hueneme (VERY close to home!)... but since she pulled off graduating at the top of her class, she got to choose ... Texas it is! She's just waiting for her movin' orders.
So ... I'm bummed about that, and work has been absolutely ridiculously crazy, and I just found out that head gasket on my car is going out ... either a couple of thousand to fix it, or a couple of thousand to put a used engine in it. I don't have a couple of thousand for anything right now... do y'all think that coin jar would help?! LOL! ;o)
Oh well, things are tough but they could always be worse.
Kim -- I think that was sooo great that your sister reached out in such a wonderful way! Lucky Doug to have his home-cooked Easter dinner, in spite of having duty! ;o)
Janie -- I was sooo hoping Jess would be stationed at San Diego ... I need to be a "step"-mama to somebody, since my baby's done grown up and moved away! LOL! I'm just that type of person (like we all are on here it seems!) that is a Mom to everyone! And, I'm with you, Janie ... I think we should ALL go pay Colby a visit! Aloha! ;o)
I just got off the phone...Doug called me. I am so lucky! I may have told you guys this before but my sister lives only 6 miles from Virginia Beach where Doug is. Doug says that my sister invited him to Easter dinner but he had duty. Then she surprised him with a Easter platter of food later that day. I am deeply touched by my sister's actions. We have never been close...she is 7 years younger than me and married to a Marine and has moved quite a bit. Things happen for a reason so I am hoping that she says in Virginia Beach for a while to give our relationship a chance. SHe is certainly stepping in the right direction with the way she has treated my son. I am so glad.
MamaBear~~I think you are able to visit Nathan in A or C school.
Janie~~Can't believe that Jess is taking to Japan thing so casually but it may be just to keep you from worrying. As if that is possible. lol
Kelly~~so great that you were able to go to "boot camp" on the change in the laundry! But why boot camp...why not a spa?
Angie~~I can totally relate to the migraine thing..that's how I get when I get them. Hope she feels better real soon.
Janet~~I think your hubby is just adorable for his posting when we needed it most.
I hope we can visit when Nathan is in C school...he is still in GL waiting to be told when they will send him to San Diego...so we wait and wait and wait...for a time or day, that is IF they don't change their minds about what to do with him...
Janie and mama bear- I hope you guys get to see your sailors soon. Every sailor deserves to spend time with their family before they embark on their journey. Jess is young just like the rest of them they dont understand the dangers. She will not realize it until she is older and says to herself. "holy crap i did that"
I haven't been to busy but honestly I felt a bit weird posting when we were so unsure about what was happening with Janet. Now that she is back on board and we got the ok now I will catch up with everyone..........Jan maybe listening to our babbling will keep your mind busy even if it for a couple of minutes :)
JAN WELCOME HOME! ALL your SISTERS here on N4M missed you terribly and we constantly thought about you and prayed. (sorry ladies that I spoke for all of us, thought you wouldn't mind since its the truth!) Losing a parent is horrible but losing a child well I don't even like to think about it. I know what my parents went through after my sister and it was heartbreaking. I've been in touch with Donna and although she carries on and tries to exhibit a positive outlook she does have her moments. And you know what, thats ok for everyone, its a part of the process.
ANYWAY ...... Oh Mama Bear I am so sorry to hear about Nate not being able to come home. Are you sure he's not pulling a joke on you and just show up? I don't know his personality but for me I could see my daughter doing that since her & I are such pranksters.
STILL no word yet for Jess. She is really hoping to hear something this week. Its just her and one of her friends from bc left at Lakes. She did say they are taking one of the ships from Va. and giving it its home base in Florida. I could go for Fl. big time! She told her father that they stopped sending anymore out to San Diego so I guess thats out of the picture now, however....Japan is still in the running! NO NO NO.......I pray she doesn't get Japan, I fear for the safety of all that are over there now with all the radiation leakage!!!! When I commented on that to her she said "Don't worry Mah, we get showered down at the end." she said it likes it no big deal. Sorry but for this Mom it is a big deal! I lived not far from three mile island in 1979 when it had its major problem, its just too scarey for me.
She wants to come home in the worst way then start her career with her fleet. She amazes me sometimes when she talks, she sounds so grown up. I miss my baby girl.
I think we should all visit Colby! I'm up for that. lol Jan how is Max doing?
Its good to see Jan back, and all you girls chatting again. Life has had all of us so busy I guess that it has been too quiet on here. I know we MOMS can make some noise, we've done it! lol
Can't wait to hear from ya'll, I'll keep everyone and their families in my prayers. Mama Bear, hang in there. I know how you are feeling, you and I have been waiting so long that it seems so unfair. I guess I can only sum it up in a few words, WELCOME TO THE NAVY!
