I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Ethan's mom, yes he will be in great lakes for the training. If he wasn't there for his last training he will want to take advantage of going off base and into Chicago when he can.

So my son who graduated BC on 2/6/15 was in training for a diver but yesterday decided it wasn't for him so he re-classed to Gunner Mate.  I spent months researching divers so I know nothing about GM...I would love some info.  He is currently waiting on new orders so we don't know when he will start.  What I have learned is that training is 27 weeks and I believe he will stay in the Great Lakes.  Correct???

Thanks, yes my son got there in Gulfport on Monday and it sounds like they won't start until March. He ventured out last night and seemed to enjoy himself. Thanks for commenting on my post.

My Sailor just got to Gulfport for more school. He said he doesn't think he will actually start school until March. He seems to be doing fine. Any information about Gulfport positive or negative?

My son's PIR was 12-5-2014 and he's still waiting for his school to start for GM. He isn't real concerned over the wait says it is eating up his contract time. He's had to shovel snow a couple of times but mainly been on watch. They told him he was good at it. He's currently on the Essex. Anyone else out there have a family member on that ship?

Lovemygm- My daughter had PIR on the same date and is currently on the same ship as your daughter. Maybe they know each other.

Hello everyone! My daughter had her PIR 10/31/14 and is in the USS Wisconsin. She finally got her approval for stand down and is coming home for the holidays. She also got approved to spend Thanksgiving with my brother who lives 14 miles from base. She is on hold for A School until after the holidays, not sure when the class will start is frustrating her. She likes to keep busy.

Tarra22- My daughter has PIR on 10/31/14 she is on the USS Wisconsin. Yes she is coming home for Christmas and new years. How about your son is he going home for the holidays? She told me that they should be classing up after the holidays. I'm hoping that they can get classed up. She has been looking into study guides and help in the library for schooling so she can get a head start.
