Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Michelle, I was going to make a reservation at the Knight's Inn. It is 1 mike from base. I don't know what I'm getting, but it is $60.00 per night.
Sue, I hope you get your box soon. I got mine on Friday. I'm still waiting for the letter. I need to call his dad and ask if it was sent to his house. How do they get the address to send the letter? I hope from his state ID.

Hi Karen,
My son is in ship 13, div 363. I think there's a discussion in Boot Camp moms for div 362 where you'll find others. I'm waiting for my letter hoping it arrives so I'll have a PIR date to work with. I'm hoping (and guessing) it will also be 10/16, is that the date for your son?

I sent a news paper article of my son foot ball team last week. We are from a small town and everyone knows everyone so I thought he would enjoy that. I think the Navy actually trys them to not think about home to much so they wont be home sick. Makes since but I don't like it.

Sue, what your son said sounds verbatim to what my son said. It sounded good to hear his, but I knew he was either reading a card, or had someone standing over him to tell him what to say. If it were up to Laurence, he would have said, "Mom, I'm here. I might write later. I'll see you. Bye"
I am washing his clothes. I just can't let them go unwashed. I also noticed, his name was misspelled on the label that was on the box. I hope they spell it correctly on his dog tags!
Sue, call his recruiter Tues. By then he/she should have the Ship and DIv. #
I've already writen Laurence twice.

Just watched the video, it's full of great info, and wonderful to actually be able to see the facilities. Thanks for the post!

Ditto on the phone in the shoes and nothing folded =D. My son left Tuesday, the box arrived today (Friday) via FedEx. I was able to get the address from my son's recruiter today and plan to write this weekend! I started a discussion group for ship 13/division 363. Hope others join in soon!

I was just able to get my son's address, ship 13, division 363 and also received the box. Funny thing is that I was on the phone with my husband who was at home when the doorbell rang, and there it was! Now it's time to start writing letters... and it is DEFINITELY a margarita weekend. Happy Friday, everyone!

Sue, I know you are proud of your Navy Recruit! When I waved good bye to Laurence as his bus left MEPS, I felt at ease. I realized that he was doing what he wanted to do. I knew he was in good hands.
I called the recruiters office today, and I was able to get the addy. He is Ship 13 Div. 364. Then my other son called and said that I received "The Box" That's when it hit me. He's following his dream, and I can't stand in his way. That doesn't make it hurt less, just puts everything in a new light.
This has been a long and VERY busy week Anyone up for margaritas?

Sue I got a letter today, he sounded good, said they keep them up for 48 hours when they get there. First few days are hard but better now, and the food "not that bad"

MB Jane, I agree. Here we understand each other. So many people don't understand that sending a child away to the military is much different than sending them away to college. In college they come home for holidays and summers. I have no idea when Laurence will ever make it back to Dallas to visit or to spend a holiday with me. Last Christmas, I knew it would be our last as a family all together. I tried to take lots pictures. The same with Easter and Mother's Day.
I have no problem letting go, it's just that they don't get to come home at will. That I will miss. I love my boys, but I know that if this is what they want to do, I can't stand in their way, but still hurts. We know that our babies can be sent into harms way to defend our freedom, For that I am proud of my saliors!
Now, I think I am going to call Laurence's cell phone so I can hear his voice. I miss him!
Sue, Good luck tomorrow! It's hard knowing he is spending his last civilian night away from home.
