DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

Information

DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Ummm...not trying to be a killjoy...but I am going to address this.

Also, PLEASE don't panic that you have done something terrible to your SR! You have not....but that is why I am addressing it now BEFORE they really get going in BC.

While I know we all LOVE our kiddos/hubbies/BF/GF etc...AND it is NOT against OPSEC...posting your SR's picture and their first name can get them "spotted".

The RDC's read these pages and while they go by their last name (posting last names is not allowed and breaks OPSEC) THEY know their first names, where they are from, what they look like and so can match it up.

Your SR"s are trying to "fly under the radar"...not attract attention to themselves.

Ex:-one SR was linked up with his mom (they can be taken in front of a computer with N4M up on the screen and have it pointed out) and then had to do 5 pushups everytime his mom posted. BTW they do EIGHT count pushups a lot. One mom just described it on BC mom's page. There aer eight counts to every "1" push up! 1U,2D,3U,4D...8D= one pushup.

One came into class one day and found the pic his mom used on N4M plastered on the wall on an overhead screen.

It's just "razzing" but they have a lot going on...some SR's are fine with it some not. I know mine would not want any undue attention.

They try to keep there B-Day a secret too. Ummm...this ladies sons ENTIRE DIV had to do 18-8 count push ups in "honor" of his B-day! How did they find out. Well she cautioned her fam and friends NOT to do anything. It took just one HB sticker on an envelope.

That being said I am just advising you that you may want to change your screen name and/or your picture.

Believe me it is HARD for me not to post my mens names and pics. I LOVE my DH (He is AF reserves and just got back from a deployment) and son and am sooooooo P.R.O.U.D. of them!  I think I did of PIR but it was dark and blurred! They were marching and in rain gear...didn't even know he was in the pic until I enlarged it! Maybe one day I will...just can't bring myself to do it.

But then I have had 27 years of "training" LOL! My husband is law enforcement in his "real" job, so 30 really!

Just trying to watch out for your SR's and you!

Matt's mom, Stevesmom, brandonsmom, Susan (Billy's mom), donnac, Diane (Michaels mom) and anyone else I may have missed (these are this the most active names I can see) would one of you ladies be interested in getting your PIR group going?

"Friend" me and let me know!

I'm saying it's...possible.
Based on last year...it did not get moved...but ANYTHING is possible in the Navy.

Your form letter will have the date. Always go in that first. Then RTC will post it to their FB ad their website.

We need to start the PIR 10/14/2011 Group. Those that left this week will most likely ne PIRing on this date. I posted info about it a few pages back. Please message me if you are interested.

Wait so does that mean if their PIR falls on Columbus day weekend it is possible the PIR will be moved to Thursday?  Im sure thats what you are saying but I want to be positive.

You...are very welcome! You CAN call your the recruiter...they can get the date and address sometimes for you within days. A caution though...the address my recruiter provided was not complete...so I waited for the form letter. I didn't know my way around N4M and was not very active in the beginning so I didn't know where to look.( No slam to my recruiter...he is a great guy!) Don't know why this happens...it is not common or uncommon...kinda middle of the road.

Here is how it basically looks as per the RTC website.

SR NAME
SHIP XXX DIV XXX
XXXX STREET OR AVENUE
GREAT LAKES IL 60088-XXXX

Your SR name will be: SR Last Name, First Name, MI

The XXX will be replaced with their Ship number , Division number, Street number and last four of the postal code.

Here is the link to the RTC website and all the ships.

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp

DO NOT guess which one ladies, they do not have your Divisional numbers on there. The division number is very important!  LOL! Please wait for your form letter or info from your recruiter. I HAD the Ship/Div from my recruiter (three days after my son left!) but the street and zip were not right. Had I known or thought to ask on here I probably could have figured it out...or a veteran mom would have for me! could've mailed letters a lot sooner =( my bad!

Well im just hoping!!!!!! Thank u for putting this out here!! I haven't gotten my form ltr yet so im not even sure that his date but i want to start my countdown and would LOVE to go ahead and minus one date off!!! Lol...thanks again for all your help!!!
Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on August 18, 2011 at 11:12am

Susan...well, you would think!

I am going to claim the "subject to change" clause on that one!

You make a good point.

Right now as it stands moms who have been receiving their Form letters from their recruits have been reporting a PIR date of 10/07.

HOWEVER, My form letter DID say May 27th 2011. THEN RTC changed the date on their website to May 26th.

Panic!!!!! Immediate calls to the Public Affairs office and moms posting to the Facebook page. It was confirmed, the form letter was wrong and PIR was moved up a day. My poor SR called and left a message to REALLY stress the change in date...little did he know that I had already known for awhile!

Last year PIR WAS on the Friday still - 10/08/2011 - BUT they had a three day weekend. This may or may not happen. Plus, just because it IS a three day weekend doesn't mean your Sailor will GET a three day weekend.

You go when the Navy tells you! LOL

Don't worry over it too much though...it will be worked out rapidly.

My son left yesterday and we were allowed to go to the oath.  It was much better than the day before when he left the house with the recruiter  just make sure you bring ID.  We were allowed to bring anyone.

Fireteamleader wouldn't that make PIR date 10/6 since that. Monday is columbus day???
