Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Angie.... Just because you are here... and I love ya!! I have a question about the Navy Federal bank account. They sent mail to Tiff here this week, so I know she obviously opened an account (she has no other bank account) will they issue her checks and/or a debit card? Because this is her home address, will this be where all her statements come too? How do I know if she has access to any money, should I send her some more up there? Also, her Hard Copy License came in the mail, should I mail it to her or wait till PIR and bring it then??

@cameowlot - he can use his debit card, I know this for a fact. My son had his credit card, but didn't want to use it (had paid it off before leaving for bc).

Others - if you plan on paying for the photos yourself on PIR day, they don't have a problem with accepting your check or credit/debit card because you are standing their in front of the cashier (removes the "3rd" party out of the equation). And they do accept cash as well.

We got my son's Keel yearbook today (photo lab called it the Cruisebook). I like it, but I'm glad it came with Pkg A as a bonus, because I would not of paid $30 for it separately. Don't get me wrong, it's nice - but over half of the book has pictures of past recruits, not anyone in my son's PIR group. But they do show those mysterious people doing all the different activities that they do in bc - and there's some history in there too (I love historical facts). And the other surprise is that when they finally do start showing the pictures of his PIR group, it's only his division (201) and his brother division (202), not all 8 divisions that graduated. Very strange. I texted Brandon this morning to say it arrived (by regular postal mail) and he was jazzed. He'll be home next week!!!!

It has been an awful day. My son called this morning and I missed the call. I wasn't expecting to hear from him for a couple of weeks. He told me when I got the arrival call I wouldn't get a call from him for 3 weeks. So I was surprised to see the 847 area code on the phone. I got to the phone on the last ring and it was to late. I have cried all day. :'(

I didnt want my son to pay for his pictures either, but I like the idea about putting the money in his bank account. he opened one before he left. Is there a meet and greet scheduled for this pir.I changed my reservations I am now staying at the residence inn. the lady said that hotel is filling up fast. they have a graduation rate. after reading some of the reviews at other hotels this was a easy choice.

ok, without having to go back through however many posts, let me ask this...is PIR day the only day that you can pay for the pics? or can you do it the day before or what?
Comment by DorothyM-seabeemom on August 28, 2010 at 12:00pm

Sobe...my daughter never had a bank account. This is her first job, first bank account.. did they issue her a bank/debit card with her Navy account? Do I need to send money to her, I do not want her to pay for these photos... just as in school, it's our pleasure to pay for them, how do I do that??
