This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

@winniesam & sjerseytina - just a thought, but if your kids have local bank accounts and they have their Navy pay deposited there, they will have money in their accounts by PIR day - so as long as they have their debit/atm card, that will work. And if you choose to treat them to these photos, you could deposit the money into their account. Now, if they don't have a card, then that makes it harder. If they opened a Navy Fed CU acct there, then they can go get the cash out. It's pain. That's why I posted that photo info on this Deppers group and the Sept Deppers group - I was hoping to let people know before their kids left. My son brought his card, so it was simple for him. Wish it was easier for the two of you.

You have got to be kidding me! They sure make it difficult to purchase photos of our recruits. My son has a checking account, no money, but a checking account (LOL). I'll see if I can mail him his check. Wow. Quite the production.

I just got off the phone with the photo lab because I wanted to know who to make it out to. she told me they do not accept 3rd party checks and that they only accept checks that are in the recruits name. options were that the recruits have time to go to the bank to withdraw the money or I can stop in the day of graduation.

I only have a moment, but wanted to direct all of you to go on to Facebook. Then look up "U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command" under the friend search - then click 'like". They just posted photos of today's graduating sailors!!!! You'll see my comment on their main page, but I'm not Sobe on facebook! Real name is Lisa Marie. Back to work I go!!!!!!

SailorSarahDad I wish my girl was coming to Texas for boot (I know she's GLAD she is not) I also believe that mine is proud to prove to everyone else that she is tough... Girls Rock!! and Boys Rock Too... hahahaha

We received our first letter yesterday as well. It was awesome, she is almost enjoying the chance to prove she is tough(she has 5 brother). I was wondering if there are other parents out there with sailors going to MA school in Texas after BC.

Someone in another group asked when the recruits would have time to go pick up their portraits. They actually visit the NEX more than we realize, and they are given time to take care of this.

I was actually quite shocked that they won't do a payroll deduction for the photos. Many seasoned moms had told me this could be done, but like I said, I talked to two different clerks at the photo lab on two different days and both said no.

Yes - you can call the photo lab, but they prefer you only call them when necessary. Try not to mention this website, as they are not our biggest fan. Moms' tend to quote things from here instead of letting the lab employees give them the answer!

There are many new sailors who have the photos shipped home if their family is not coming to PIR. Our son was a Grad & Go, so he ran back to his barracks after PIR to get them for us.

We almost LOST them at the airport on our flight home. It's a very large flat white package (like a plain flat FedEx envelope) and it wouldn't fit in our carry-on bag (did not bring checked luggage). While grabbing a coffee in the terminal, we set it down and walked away. You should of seen me jump - I screamed "Oh Sh#@" and everyone turned around. I ran back to that stand and there it was! The envelope is white and blended with the wall. I'm lucky airport security didn't apprehend it thinking it was something dangerous! So, I did something rather smart for a change and wrote our name and cell & home phone number on the envelope - and wrote "Navy Portraits" on it too! If I lost it again, maybe someone would call me.

Hello everyone. I got 2 more letters today, so was very happy when i got home from work.
Sobe, thanks for the picture info :) Have fun bowling. I play on a pool league every tuesday. it's a good outlet.

Thanks for the photo info Sobe! I thought they could have it deducted from their checks. Glad to know that I need to send him a check to avoid the long lines!
