Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Things to discuss with your Deppers BEFORE they leave - or write to your Recruit now to get answers:

What news do they want to hear about? If loved ones are gravely ill, or a pet dies, do they want to be told in a letter, have the Red Cross tell them or wait until bc is over because there isn't anything they can do about it. They may say "tell me", but they have not arrived yet and don't understand the stress. You know your child best, so together you guys can make a good decision.

If they find out they are a Grad & Go, they may feel bad that you are spending money to come see them for such a short visit - and they may write you and tell you not to come (just happened this week in PIR 8/27). First of all, if you can afford to go, then please do!!!! You will not regret it and your kid truly does want you there. They may not think so now, but just trust me on this one! They mature in bc, so they also think about costs and are trying to be grown-up about it.

Discuss formal Navy portraits. The Navy does NOT send home an order sheet, our kids are adults now, they decide if and how many - and most have less than a day to get the price list and make a decision. These are very professional touched up portraits, I was impressed. You will WANT these pictures! But they have to pay for them the last week of bc with a debit/credit card or personal check. Costs cannot be deducted from their paycheck. Family can go in to NEX on PIR day and pay for these - but it's a zoo in there that day, and if they don't pay for them by then, they lose out on the Keel Yearbook. Write or send a comment to me if you want the prices, lists, etc.

Angie, that was an improvement...lol. it's funny because my whole family makes fun of me for my hand writing. it's horrible and gets worse with age. so i've been typing my letters to him. but i too know his is pretty bad, so was worried i wouldn't be able to read his...lol but i guess it's ok, my mom called today and said she got a letter and she read it all to me, so must not be too bad if grammy can read it..lol

Dorothy - YAY!! You deserved that letter! :)

Don't know what BCAT stands for... back when I went to boot camp we called it getting "cycled"... it was not fun. Our RDC's (Recruit Division Commanders) were called (Company Commanders) back then, but they would have us doing pushups, then jumping jacks, then crunches, (or some other crazy PT) over and over and over until all us girls were crying and sobbing. But we kept going until they let us stop. I can laugh about it now... but it scared me back then. It's all part of the way they teach teamwork, responsibility, accountability, etc... and a little (Ok a lot) of exercise isn't a bad thing. I LOVED my Navy experience and boot camp made me a better person. I believe that with all my heart!

Good morning ladies! I got my first letter yesterday. it made me feel so much better after having missed his call the day before. my oldest daughter, who lives an hour away at college, also got a letter. so was a really good day indeed :) he was telling me in the letter that when the div doesn't listen to the rdc's that they get something called BCAT, which he explained as like pt on crack...lol but i was wondering if any of you seasoned vets might know what the acronym stands for?

Yay for everyone else getting letters and hugs to those just sending your loved ones off. now i guess i better make it look like i'm actually doing some work while i'm at work..lol

have a great day everyone!

Hey Ladies, can you believe that everyone in my ship/div room has already received a letter? One of them already has 2 letters. : )
