Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Tiffs mom, our walking taco was a small bag of doritos but fritos would be good too, then taco meat, cheese, lettuce, salsa and sour cream, eaten with a fork. The Frito Pie sounds easier and yummy too...hmm maybe next year!
I guess meatball sandwiches are pretty common here (just 4 or 5 mini meatballs in sauce on top of a hot dog roll with mozzarella). Of course my Italian grandmother would roll over in her grave that we bought FROZEN meatballs-LOL ( I do make my own when we make spaghetti/meatballs for dinner but it's not a fast meal! -usually Sat or Sun dinner)
Hoping we get letters this week!

Lori, I'm glad you were home when he called and I'm sure just hearing your voice helped him immensely. My recruit's note on the 'form letter' said "thinking about home a lot" --not something I expected him to say so I think they're all homesick!

Rainy day here, laundry here I come. :)

Lori...My son had a hard time also. He had a hard time keeping the quivers out of his voice the first time he called. The first long call he got was worse he said he wasn't sure he made the right decision. The next call was better. He said every day gets better. When I got his first letter that was even better. Your son will be ok. The adjustment is probably like non other he's ever had. With SF I know it was. Try to keep yourself busy that will help you. Write him letters.

Good Morning!
Lori -thanks for the info. I think you did great! Good for you for keeping it together! I'm praying I can do the same when my boy calls.

Hope everyone has a good day. I'm thinking of you all and praying for strength for our all of us and our recruits!!! HUGS!!!

Lori - thanks for telling us about the call. For those of us that haven't received one, it confirms the "no news is good news". It helps to know that if our SR's are really having a hard time, they do try to help them by letting them call home. It sounds like you were very supportive and encouraging, which is exactly what he needed. And, if he had wanted to talk to his dad, he would have asked :) Hang in there, I'm sure that was all he needed, and he will start getting all the letters and be just fine!

Thanks Jessica for the re-assurance! It has been tougher than I thought. My dad passed away before he left and we had a celebration of his life the Sunday prior to him leaving for boot camp. I know that has been hard on him to leave the family right after. I'm asking all the family to write, that sounded like what he is waiting for. I made sure he knew I have been writing since I received his address. That seemed to help, just wish he would get them.

Hi Everyone! I received a call from my recruit. Good and bad!! It was good to hear his voice, but he was down. He is missing family. He left on 8/10/10, they let him call cause he was having a rough time. Said physically he is fine, just homesick. I was positive and encouraging the whole time on the phone. I so wanted to say how much I missed him, but I stayed positive for him. I have been sending letters since Tuesday and he hasn't received any. Said they get to write tomorrow. Also that his unit is supposed to be able to call home next weekend. He told me to tell famiily and friends "hi" and write. I hope I helped him, it about broke my heart. My husband said I did a good job and did think he would say anything different. I was selfish, I never thought of letting my husband talk to him. Any advice would be appreciated. I know when I saw the 847 area code on the phone, I thought oh no, what's wrong... Take care everyone!

Cody'smom.... when he wrote you did he say if he had received any of your letters yet? I can't wait, even if it's "tell James I love him" LOL (her boyfriend) just SOMETHING would be nice, I hope they can write to us tomorrow!

Pink Helmet, we have the Frito bag here, it's called a Frito Pie, but it's just chili and cheese on frito's... I like the lettuce idea, hmm and some sour cream LOL I like "walking taco" have never in my life heard of it before! LOL

MelGal... I'm so sorry you are having so much trouble. I know about the stomach, mine keeps hurting, I tried to take a nap and BOOM out of nowhere I would think.. what is she doing? is she ok? this by far the most difficult thing every... but each day that passes is one day closer to seeing her!!
