Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I can't believe you got the box so fast Dixie!! Woohoo!!

I totally don't think the dad's would understand this at all!! :)

Kara - good idea about the book as an excuse to go to the recruiter's office! Too bad it was closed for you. This patience thing is really hard isn't it?!

One of these days I'm going to try to figure out how to put a picture in my profile....

Kara... Oh I get it. I called yesterday and my boy hadn't even been at boot camp for 24 hours yet! ;)

I was thinking that maybe I could bake some brownies and bring them over to them today for another excuse to check... it's a 30 min drive from me... but then decided that might be a bit "cRaZy"... so I guess I'll sit tight. Ya know... the truth is, if I bake some brownies in my current mood I might sit and eat the whole pan myself! Food is comforting... that's so BAD, huh?

I think this may be a little weird, but you DEP moms will understand, so I must confess. Yesterday I found the ASVAB study guide that my son used before he took his test. I paid something like $20 bucks for it so didn't want to throw it away and I really don't think there is any hope of my 17 year old going into the military. So... I realized that I could use it as an excuse for stopping by the recruiting office (my son likes to be independant so I've really only met his recruiter twice in over a year and didn't feel like I could just stop by). It must not just be me because I had gone to get my dad to fix my cooler that broke 5 minutes after my hubby left to go to a dr appt in Beverly Hills (which is 2 or more hours from us). When I told him I was going to drop the book off, he said "well lets go right now." So I think he was feeling like I was and wanted to see if the recruiter had any info as much as I did. The worst part was that it was closed with a sign saying they would be back 3 hours later. =( Serves me right I should just be patient and wait for the form letter. I did leave the book hanging on the door though.

Yea, Dixie!!!!! Woohoo!!! I hope you letter has wings, too! :)

Never thought you'd be so excited to get some dirty clothes in a box delivered to your door, huh? Somehow, I don't think dad's would understand this quite as much. Do you think they do?

Yes! So glad the show is on the road. But I'm totally with you in wanting the box and letter so I can plan my trip! I really hope we are all together at PIR!

JD'sMom - that was so helpful, thanks for posting the link!

Pink - so happy you got your call!!! It is a good feeling to know that the show is on the road, right? All the waiting for it to begin is over... now we get to plan for the big reveal of our Sailors.

louann0628 - It's a lot to take in, huh? I don't have any PIR info yet either but hope to be in your shoes soon!

NavyMomLG - LOL about the UPS Guy. That's really funny. I think others have said it's a FedEx delivery though (please correct me if I'm wrong!) so you may have to scare the pants off someone else! ;)

I want my box and letter! I'm so needy!

Here's a link on a PIR experience. Read it and see what you have to look forward to. It also gives places to stay and transportation stuff. http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/pir-813-our-experience
Looks like you might need to copy and paste the address, but I can't tell for sure.

I got a phone call!!!! It was about 11 pm in Illinois and it was so awesome to hear his voice! It was one of the shortest calls on record I think, but at least I know he's there and starting on this journey he's been waiting more that a year for. He sounded pretty serious, but he ended with an "I love you too Mom" so what more can I ask for?!

Thanks for the funny stories ladies! I needed a laugh today! We can do this!!
