Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Dana, it's so funny that you posted about doing bc with your kid because I just posted this on the Bootcamp moms forum:

The past few days I've found a really positive thing to keep my mind off Brandon leaving. He and I used to go to the gym together and we would do the treadmill (I walk, he runs) then swim laps. He stopped a few weeks before leaving because he figured he needed a break before all of the physical activity he would be doing in bc. I kept going though and now find it something I can do that makes me feel good and is a time when I don't have to think about anything. I get on the treadmill that is in front of the trashiest or dumbest tv show I can find, turn on my ipod, and then I can sort of let my brain veg out. The tv is just for something to keep my eyes on so that I'm not constantly looking to see how much time is left. Then I go swim a bunch of laps which is another good way of being in your own little world since the other swimmers leave you alone if you are in a lap swimming lane. I figure if I use his absence to motivate me he won't be the only one who looks different at PIR.

I think it's a great idea to use bc as our motivation to get fit or more fit as the case may be. It really helped me to get motivated and go to the gym when he was preparing to go to bc. I don't know about that test though. I have been doing the treadmill and swimming for months now and this is what I have worked up to: 30 - 45 min on the random setting (hills) at 3.1 miles per hour and then swimming 7-12 (mostly 8-10) 100 yard laps after the treadmill. The miles on the treadmill end up between 1.5 to 2 miles. I just turned 39 and had back surgery a year ago for a herniated disc. I have no idea if my workout is good, bad or ugly, but it is realistic for me. Although today I found out I can do a non-cardio workout and then still go on the treadmill for 30 min so I will be stepping up my workout a bit and that is directly related to the bootcamp challenge. I want my son to be as proud of me as I am of him.

Thanks Dixie.... my grandmother was named Dixie... I didn't know her but I love that name!!! My parents wanted to name me "Holly Hudson" our last name is Hudson, but my parents were "Theater People" and thought Holly Hudson sounded like a Hooker.... so, I'm Sharon... I think if I was Holly Hudson, I would be much richer and have a very OLD MAN as my hubby (Hugh.... yo... ) My birthday is Dec 27 and thought Holly was too cliche... sorry... I'm off on a tangent... I need to go to bed... Sweet dreams all... the days DO GET BETTER... I Promise!!!!! This coming from a mom whose "woman parts" are trying to put that little girl right back in!! and keep her all snuggly within :(

On the recruit training command website, you can see upcoming graduations. You will have better luck getting a division number from your recruiter and then follow this page until its posted.

Ok.... your dogs and cats might be thrown off if you say "Tiffany's Home, Tiffany's Home" so maybe you should use that tactic! LOL

Deee the box will come by Fed Ex... do NOT make the mistake saying "Tiffany's Home, Tiffany's HOME..." because the dog thought, Tiffany was home... but I was on the phone, heard the truck and just ran downstairs, screaming and the dog, who is really stupid, cause the world revolves around him when we scream and he thinks a ball is LOST... well, he scared the Fed Ex Man.... he's a little thing, with a big bark and the Fed Ex dude was like, "Drop it like you mean it.... and ran!!!"

I don't know if they are black market LOL hahaha the worse part, we couldn't find his favorite ones, sour cream and onion... we had all these funky flavors, what happened to just plain PRINGLES LOL

Dee... I'm glad I made you laugh, it's hard... I know, my daughter was my shadow for 18 years, she was not one to have friends, never did sleepovers never socialized... and came to me and said I want to JOIN the Airforce...I was like, OK... we went, she didn't like them, so she did more research, and said I want to join the Navy, I was like OK.. so we went there and the next thing I knew, my ex-fat-ass-hole-hubby and I were (whoooooops did I just say that? oh well) were at the recruiters signing my 17 year olds life away... and low-and-behold, she's there!!! :) She's a little thing but has determination!! Worse part.... I'm trying to make hotel reservations, not knowing where the ex-ass... etc is staying at! LOL

Deemedic, when my box arrived the only thing I took out was a tee shirt which I put in the dogs crate. Have not touched the boxes again.
Tiffsmom did u send USPS flat rate? that was alot of pringles, so maybe there would be no difference in price. When my husband was in Iraq, I sent care pkgs in those flat rate boxes.
