Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

OK... short story made long (if you know me, when I write, I don't shut up!!)

For those who have not sent their kids off to MEPS or the Hotel yet.. go look at my pics on my page here. TIffany and I did this to our cars the nite before she left. When she got to the hotel, we were in the elevator and one of the girls asked if she was Tiffany, we said yes and she said her dad felt bad because he didn't have a bumper sticker and thought he could have done this. Then at MEPS when Tiffie was being processed, the lady asked if her mom drove a suburban, she said yes, and the lady said, I Love your car!! She was proud of herself for coming up with the idea, we even did the "NEW" boyfriends car (he leaves for Navy on Sept 7) I have not washed my car, I don't know when I will.

Today, driving to the Post Office to mail 30 cans of Pringles to Iraq for my other daughters boyfriend, a man was honking at me...I was like "What does that lady want from me?" My daughter was like "Mom, that is a man and he has a bumper sticker that says "Navy Dad" I was like...OHHH he looked like a girl to me (whatever... who can tell now-a-days!!) So, He kept trying to keep "down" with us, I drive slow! LOL and Brittney was like hurry up... I don't want him to make me roll my window down.... finally he went one way, we the other. :) NOW.... about the Pringles.... Pringles cost: 25.00.... shipping to Iraq... 37.00 That is the most money I have ever spent on stupid fake chips!!!!!

I'm sorry deemedic... I know it's hard the last few days, I had to share my girl with her new boyfriend and it was hard. I now feel like the old aunt that is telling stories to you young ladies.... hang in there, it will be ok, etc. Tiffany left August 9th, not even two weeks ago and it feels like months.... but it does get easier!! I promise!!

HUGS to all who are right now in that "LOW" stage, they are gone, it's quiet around the house and just waiting on the letter/box... it will get better, I was literally bawling when she left and the next night too, then it got better and now it's even better, still cry, but it's less :)

hesmyrock, I can relate, we never rec'd the "I'm here" call. I think because he sent a text just before entering the base. But I can't say for sure. Pink helmet, love the helicopters....they always say that us moms hover too much. :)
New moms, hang on, you will make it.
Comment by Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom on August 19, 2010 at 6:28pm
Oh no! I'll be so upset if I don't get a call!! I didn't even think of that as a possibility... I guess I have to chant "no news is good news"...

I'm impressed with the Mom's doing the boot camp work outs! I run/walk, but certainly don't set records. There have been mornings I've thought, "Just keep going, this is nothing compared to what (insert son's name here) is going through!" Keep it up ladies:-) I have been thinking about yoga, I've never done it, but think I could use the stretching, relaxation, etc.

Dana - I have been thinking the same thing, maybe 10/8. I know the group that left last week were split between 10/1 and 10/8. I have absolutely no relationship with my son's recruiter, so I am going to just have to wait for the letter. I did take a picture of him at the oath ceremony though, and told him I now have identification and will be coming to see him if anything happens to my son:) The other families at the ceremony got a kick out of that. I am barely 5'1'', and he is about 6'5" and 250lbs! Very nice guy, just don't think he will give me any information, and I would rather get it first hand than get my hopes up.

Ok... so I don't want to get my hopes up too much... but after spending about 30 mins trying to track when recruits left and when their PIR date is... (instead of working, or something constructive like that) I have a glimmer of hope that my boy could be in the 10/8 group...when originally I was thinking it would be 10/15.

He left yesterday... I'm probably wishing for too much, huh? FYI... His recruiter said he wasn't in the system for a Ship or Division yet. I know... I'm anxious! They laugh at me. ;)

For those of you whose kids just left for BC, I felt like I was in a fog that first week. I couldn't focus (long), all I could think about was "I wonder how's he doing." One minute I was OK, one minute I was crying. Feel what you're feeling at the moment and it does get better.
Comment by Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom on August 19, 2010 at 3:30pm
Dana - lol! oh if that not working out over 34 were really true!! You're good at these pep talks too! :)

anetrex - thanks! I too go from being so proud of him to the knowing he's scared and alone... but Dana's right... they need to get out there and find their lives. It's just that we've been "helicopters" for so long it's hard to change!!
