DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

NavyMomLG - that's so funny that you're teaching your coworkers, too!! :)

I bought a yoga mat... does that count for anything? I'm SO OUT OF SHAPE!

And here I thought I was the one with the great Boot Camp idea!! Sounds like we are truly soul sisters on this website. I set up a schedule for myself, beginning yesterday - the day after my son arrived at GL - and ran 1 mile yesterday and did yoga this morning. I'm not so much about the situps and pushups, although there is some of that in yoga, and there just ain't no way this old lady is doing and pullups!! For those of you just starting to run, the DEP Success Accelerator book has a great running chart. I carry that book with me every where now. My coworkers have mastered the phonetic alphabet and we are now working on Navy terminology. Next week we will work on military drill and the Navy core values :)

That's as far as the PFA age goes...got it from this site. I don't think they let you join the Navy past 34. I'm past that too... by 7 years! ;)

So apparently I live in LA LA LAND because it took me 15 mins to do just a mile... and I think I'm going to die. I don't even have enough energy to see how many push ups or sit ups I could do but I'm going to venture a guess that I wouldn't pass... not even close. This recruits mama has some work to do! ;)

I'm going to get back on my treadmill today... literally. I told my recruit I'd go to boot camp with him. I'm going to try to do the Physical Fitness Assessment. My goal is to do the 17-19 age group. But that's lofty for this couch potato!!! Hopefully I'll get there in 8 weeks! Want to join me?

Sharon I'm only on envelope #2, but #1 had a few letters in so I guess that counts! (Needed 2 stamps since I also put some envelopes and writing paper in too) Guess I need to address and mail #2 now before the mailman comes!
And LOL about Abner eyeing the build-a-bear! :)

Becky, I always close my eyes on roller coasters! But guess I gotta keep 'em open on this BC one!

Good Morning Ladies! Hope today is good for everyone.

I felt SO GUILTY going to bed last night knowing that my only baby was not going to be able to sleep until tonight. I'm hoping that means that they are trying to rush his group through processing so they can get his ship started with his division. I'm good at rationalizing things in a way to benefit me... ;)

So... on the agenda for today... write another letter.

Thanks for all the encouraging posts and sharing your feelings. It's so nice to have you all to come running to in my time of neediness!

HUGS!!!

Good morning KatQ
My son left for boot camp on Nov 17 2009,I thanked God because he decided to go to the hotel and they take him to meps and then the airport...I felt SOOO depressed, but when I talked to him I just give him my "happy" face.He used to ask me:"mami are you well?"And I used to say" oh yea! very well, you are happy I'm happy!"But now I understad, after crying a lot, even going to the doctor and of course CHURCH and PRAYERS,I'm sorry if I offend someone, writing about church.
This is life;we all has done the same thing at some point in owr lives.
Just wish you, families and most of all our sons, daughters, spouses and wives who decided entering the military that God be with them, bless and guide everyone!!!!
Nice day all!!! When I see some of N4Moms videos,I cry...he is my son and a very nice young man!!

khoov00.... when my husband tried to look in the box that was sent home, I freaked out... don't TOUCH IT!!! When my daughter went into my daughters room and sleep in her bed... I WAS LIKE...... GET OUT OF THERE.... that is HER ROOM... Realistically, I know she will never live in there... but HECK she's only been gone a week, get OUT!!! I am like a mother bear and I don't even want them to "LOOK" at her room, her hairbrush, her ANYTHING!!!! I had to go into her room and refold her blankets on her bed because the dog jumped up there trying to steal her "build a bear" (he loves stuffed animals and has been eyeing that bear for over a year now!!!) I just want to shut her room off and put locks and chains on it... GET OUT People.... she's still my DAUGHTER and it's off limits! :) :) :) :)

I'm so glad for everyone's posts to know that I'm not the only one going through the roller coaster of emotions. My son had already moved out a couple of months ago, but when he left it hit me really hard. I guess the fact that now I can't stop by and pick him up for dinner or take him grocery shopping is what has been making me cry since he left on Monday. I'm kind of glad that we had a little separation before he left for GL or I may be in a mental institution from my oldest child leaving. His brother and sister were like vultures descending on his bedroom when he moved out so at least that trauma didn't coincide with him leaving for BC.

I'm happy for him to be on this great adventure and super proud that this was the choice he made for what to do with his life but like all of the other moms here I miss him. DEP is a great program and I'm so grateful for everything his recruiter did during his senior year. My husband (who is ex-Navy) almost died last September and was in the hospital for a long time. I feel like the DEP program really helped my son stay focused even when I couldn't. I can't wait to get a letter from him and to get the address to send him a bunch of letters (even though he told me not to). When he went to summer camp I sent him about $25 worth of cards, even from the dogs, so that he would have plenty of mail. I've been trying to rally the rest of the family to actually sit down and write a real handwritten letter. My other son was joking that he may not be able to do that so I told him that he could type an email to his brother and I would print it and mail it with mine.

Love and hugs for all the other bc moms. Keep posting please because it makes me realize that I'm not insane and it's ok to be sad he's not here right now.
