This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

That is too funny with the fed ex guy too!!! I just heard the truck and Abner and I waited for him walk away, Abner barked the whole time thinking someone was there to visit him...

OK... do your boxes have a weird smell?? I took all her clothes out, washed them, took purse out and papers... the box smells weird to me, I want to keep the box for all the letters (I'm making copies of all my letters and all the keepsakes) but this box just smells funky now... ??? I wonder if I put a bounce sheet in it, it will help?? Her clothes didn't smell like body odor, they smelled of her perfume, but this box... hmmm

Thank you TiffsMom! I'm hanging in there, and I appreciate all the support from all you wonderful ladies here! I'll be starting my letter writing tomorrow, I think I've already bought about 10 cards to send. Our Fed-Ex driver doesn't usually come until after 6 pm, so I'll be home from work to meet him at the curb, and the mail comes around noon--so I'll miss him for sure(darn it). I was looking forward to meeting him at the truck and begging--lol.
Last night, my son said that the only thing he was worried about was missing us. I'm lucky that my parents are here, and I'll be giving his address to his friends also.
Night every one! I've got to be at work by 0630 in the morning.

Dear Moms and loved ones. The first week is the hardest. This site is a life saver. My sons left on a Monday, we live in Tx. Boxes came in on Friday, but I was not home and had to wait till Mon. Monday, the boxes arrived about an hour after the mailman delivered the form letter. I was so nervous opening the boxes, but it was just as I expected, except for one pair of pants had the legs rolled up?? A little bit sad for a few moments, but instead I started writing to the boys. This week has been so much easier, I think because I have an official PIR date and can make plans. Don't forget that you can call your recruiter for the mailing address, they usually have it within 48 hours. Also, since they give you the division # you can go to the Recruit Training Command webside and under the graduation tab there are upcoming dates that get posted as soon as the divisions fill up. Good luck, and God Bless!

Awwwww Jana ... I'm happy for you!! My daughter sounded scared and was just as fast, nothing extra! Now you will get your box and letter!! I wrote Tiffany every day (IT IS HARD to come up with stuff to say every day!) and today was the first day I could mail them, I had seven, I combined a few days into one letter!

Got my 15 second call also. He sounded a bit tired, but he told me he slept some on the plane.

Dana... I know it's hard, we did fine until Tiffany got tears, then we all looked like idiots in the hotel, luckily I think most of the people in the lobby/lounge of the hotel were all MEPS for all armed forces... hang in there... I know it's hard!! I didn't think I would make it... but Alas, I did :)

Got the I'm Here call (via his Dad, but I get the box and letter!) at 7:15. Call was scripted as everyone else's, but he did get to ask him how he is doing, and he replied "I'm doing great!". Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well during his processing days.

Congratulations to your son, Sobe, you SHOULD brag about that!

Jessica - my son updated his FB both last night and while he was at the airport today. Here I thought I was the only one in contact with him.

Sobe, WOW! That's very exciting news! Congrats!
MidwestNavyMom & NavyMomLG - we need to get together sometime.

Just left my recruit at the hotel. I cried all the way home and still the tears aren't quite finished. I'm banking on the posts from you ladies ahead of me hat it does get better.

HUGS!
