Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My son left about 40 minutes ago. I stayed at the airport until I could no longer see the plane in the air--then I just had to cry and leave. I'm OK for now--it's still early in the day tho!
I was not allowed to go up to the gate either. This is just an American Airlines rule tho, because about 8 Air Force recruits were leaving on Southwest for San Antonio at the same time, and they were allowed to have 2 family members go up with them.
My son was the only Navy recruit leaving out of El Paso today, and he was so ready to go. I had to be excited for him!

Sandy22, sorry you had to cancel the party. it has been my experience that guys for some reason are not very good at saying goodbye, and actually just hate the thought of it at all. I remember when my oldest brother first joined the marines he was a jerk before he left for bootcamp and a couple of other times he came home for visits, he was always a jerk right before he left. and many years later i finally asked him about it, and he said it was easier for him to leave if we were mad at him. I wanted to punch him for being so dumb. but that's boys for you i guess. But maybe he'll come around. i'll keep my fingers crossed for you :)

Sandy22 - hang in there. You're in my thoughts as you deal with this hurt.

NavyMomLG - so excited for you! My son flies to Chicago on Thursday.

Just heard from my boy - he is at the airport waiting for a 2:20 filght to Chicago! There are a total of 7 leaving from Minneapolis today. No tears yet, still REALLY EXCITED, and praying all goes well the next few days. I never knew the first week would be so nerve-wracking. Thanks to all of you who are a week or so ahead of me for all of the information and encouragement!

So sad to hear about Becky and her son. This journey has been an emotional roller coaster! My son has to be at the recruiting office by 1 pm tomorrow. I asked him about going to MEPS or the airport, but he wants to just go on his own. I'm holding it together so far today, but I think it's going to get harder as the day goes on. So want him to succeed but I'm going to miss him!

Good morning. Another day, still heart broken for Becky, and feeling sorry for myself; I guess as Angie says we take this journey in baby steps, and don't look too far ahead (that's good advice for life too).

Sharon, I'm so bummed we're a week apart, maybe you can hide a note under the bleachers for me at grad. :)

dorothy, my daughter is insisting on coming along, and of course she'll be missing a few days of classes (I hope not tests, I don't think it'll be midterms yet). I too missed Patrick's first swearing in and so we also insisted on being at MEPS (but then we're fortunate it's close to us, whereas some of the folks on here have horrible drives to get to MEPs).

Hugs to everyone who kids shipped out yesterday or are leaving this week, please let us know how you are doing!

Becky thank you for sharing what Jake had to say. that was so sweet of him. you have a wonderful young man. and i wish nothing but the best for him in his future.

My son has been gone 2 weeks now. we didn't get to go to his first swearing in, so we definately went when it was time for him to go. even if he hadn't wanted us to go (which i know he really did) he also knew there was no way in the world i wasn't going to go. we didn't go to the airport though, as they didn't leave from meps til just after 330 and their flight left around 530. so i knew he/we wouldn't have much time together before he had to go through security. i had wanted to ask about getting a gate pass for us to be able to go that far with him, but i heard the gentleman say during their last briefing, that we wouldn't be able to. so was bummed and just decided it best to say good bye there instead. i'm really hoping for letters this week, but trying not to get my hopes up just incase.

Reading all your post about thinking your kids pir dates would have been a week later, i too thought for sure his wouldn't be til 10/1. so i was really surprised that it was 9/24. either way doesn't matter to me, that's just a week sooner i get to see him :) my daughter that is in college was a little upset, because that is when she will be taking finals for the semester. so not sure yet if she'll be able to go. her roommate told her she should try talking to her teachers and maybe the dean and see if they will let her take them early so she can go with us. if his pir had been 10/1 she would have been good to go, because she has that week off from school. she was sad that she didn't go with us when he left because of school, so thinking that she can't go to grad had her upset even more. but i will just have to hope for the best.

to all you sending yours off in the next day or so...big hugs to you all :)

Have a good day everyone :)

Becky, I don't know what happened.but my son wears glasses, and just by what others have said, I am praying for you and your son. Mine left 1 week ago and it is very hard for me. I had to let his brother open his box, Just got his letter yesterday so am mailing lots of letters I have written. I keep all sailors in my thoughts and prayers. beth

Good luck Dixie and Dana, I am off to work today so I hope that keeps my mind busy (yeah, right)! I haven't heard a word from my boy yet, but I asked that he at least let me know when he is leaving for the airport today. We were at his first swearing in ceremony, so he didn't see the point in our coming to this one. When we dropped him off at his recruiter's office he wouldn't even let us come in the building - had to say goodbye on the sidewalk!! He really wants to take this on himself. Looking forward to the call tonight!
