DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

Information

DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

OK... T's boyfriend hung around from 6:30am until 9:30pm... He left briefly, I think his dad came home?? but came back for dinner, he had showered and seemed to be doing much better. He stayed for dinner, my older left to go back up to college, so he watched tv with me and Alex (son) and hubby... was kind of weird.. I think either he is really scared for bootcamp or he really misses Tiffany???? I don't know?? This is the what's hard, his parents are both Ministers for the Salvation Army, they got divorced less than a year ago, he lived in Virginia, so his dad came to Houston, his mom went to Oklahoma. He came to live in Houston in May??? not sure. He met Tiff... T... at Dep program, then they started talking in late June and dating, so they have only been dating maybe 2 months!!!! This is where it's weird... I don't know him that well, but here he was at my house at 6:30am... he's a sweet sweet boy and maybe just lost with his mom gone and today his dad was away, just a very strange day, to say the least.

Wow that is an ugly pic of Abner! LOL I liked seeing T's (sheesh LOL) picture on here :(

Speaking of pics.... WOW Angie... you are beautiful!!! I saw your pic today and you don't look old enough to have a kid in the Navy!!

HUGS to all the moms at the hotels tonight and this next week, seems like months ago for me, it was just 7 days ago :(

I can't find a name or pic I like now, I miss my Tiffie pics :(

Don't mind me, just trying out some pics and names... read the OP thing too, scarey :(

Thanks KatQ!
I think I did ALL that you mentioned today. Cried, kicked, and screamed! This afternoon, I officially melted down. Very unusual for me. I am usually the strong one, that no one ever sees falling apart. My husband got an eyeful and earful of me falling completely apart. I am much better now.

Saw the posts about opsec/etc. I changed my pic too, along with deleting a few that I had posted.

I think we all knew that this experience was going to be a life changing experience for our sons/daughters. From what I have been reading, it is a life changing experience for all of us as well. It's not easy, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I was just sitting here thinking that our sons/daughters cannot fail! They have way too many people cheering them on for failure to be an option. Also, just as we are all leaning on each other, they are doing the same thing. Reminds me of the saying... "individual commitment to group effort = VICTORY!"

Yes Angie as PK posted: Super thanks for all of your constant support. It really helps get through the times.

Honnalora, it is okay - let it all out. We are here to support each other. I love it here because I can vent, cry, kick, scream or whatever and everyone understands. There is no pointing fingers.

Just returned from a job site with my husband. He is renovating my son's girlfriends house that she will be living in while attending college. The day was a little rough as normally my son would of gone with him But (smile) I made it through and then we went to the movies. Oh Lord I do miss my son.

God Bless to all the moms who've sons/daughters have gone and for those whose dates are soon. We are all behind you.

Angie's latest post about re-reading opsec/etc is good advice (hence the new profile picture. :-) Thanks Angie!

Good evening,
Just got in, thanks Becky for the recipe; I didn't have time to make one today so I'm glad you posted the 'real' recipe before I hunted google. :-)

Sharon, hope Tiffany's BF is okay, maybe reading some of the things on this site will be helpful for him to alleviate some of the anxiety?

Hate to post and run but I'm beat! Thinking of the moms of shippers leaving tomorrow!

I'm here but no here! LOL Tiffany's boyfriend called my other daughter at 6:30am this morning, he has been having chest pain (not heart) and back pain, his brother had taken him to the emergency room and they said they think it's just stress (he leaves for Navy BC on Sept 7) so they gave him some pain pills, well he was really upset and his dad wasn't home and he did't want to take the meds with no one home, so he asked if he could come over here. So he's been here all day, stayed for dinner and is still here, I don't think he wants to go home. He is feeling better, physically, but you can tell he is really sad and NERVOUS he is more nervous than Tiffany was and I think with her already gone it's just making it worse.

I'll come back later tonight, if he goes home LOL poor guy :( I feel so bad for him :(
