DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Hi Dorothy, you're a week ahead, at least, of us you'll have to let us know when you finally get a letter!

Hey ladies just wanted to do a quick check in. it's been a crazy weekend, my youngest daughter went away with friends for the weekend and my oldest daughter came home for a visit, so much for a kid free weekend..lol then yesterday my best friends brother passed away, so i've been helping her deal with that. I hope you all have a great sunday to cap off the weekend. I'm really hoping since this is the 2nd sunday he's been there that Seth will get mail this week and be able to write back.

PKsMom, I think I want to try the coca cola cake too! Maybe that will brighten my day. Ya know, I think I would really feel better if that letter would arrive. Can't wait. Thanks for the encouragement, so appreciative to have NavyforMoms to turn too! This would seem unbearable alone.

What did we do before technology?

Honnalora, so sorry it's a bad day for you! I am hoping once we can mail our letters that will help (and get a phone call in a couple of weeks!)

Dreary day today, I think I'm going to make a coca cola cake!

It's officially been a week since my son left for BC. Friends asked me all last week how I was doing and the only way to describe it was "numb", like it hadn't really hit me yet. Well, the numbness has worn off and today has been horrible! More poor husband is trying to help - but he's cheery attitude is not helping. I almost had a melt down over closet space, and the fact that the garage light was left on. Has it been 8 weeks yet? It feels like it.

Good morning. Hard to believe tomorrow will be one week. Just 'undecorated' from his party two weeks ago (couldn't do it before now).

proudmom-welcome, next week you'll be going through what my past weekhas been like and this website is a life saver; lots of info I don't think I would have found out about otherwise and many nice women here to share things with!

Sharon, I saw a recipe link here in N4Ms, can you post the coke cake there Or is it easy enough to google. Guess I could try that! I'm sure I'll get a dozen variations, but it's always fun to try new stuff.

KatQ, how nice you are friendly with the girlfriend! My recruit and his girlfriend broke up last November (and she was the one I really liked!); I guess it may be easier on him without a girlfriend at this point (and she wasn't thrilled with him talking about going into the service, so I guess things happen for a reason).

Angie, thanks again for all of your info; I am sure you find yourself repeating yourself every few weeks in these Deppers groups (or maybe every day?) and I just want to say how much we appreciate your insights!

Thanks Kat Q, I can't believe the support NavyForMoms has to offer. He has not left yet, and I'm feel I'm already tied into a great support system. I can't image what you are going through without your son around but I guess I will understand soon enough.

WWBecky hang in there - it will be okay. I haven't cried yet - trying to be strong. But the tears are right there. I made a Navy pillow for my son's girlfriend and she came over yesterday to see us. She always makes me smile. This weekend is becoming so long though as Seby is not around. Hubby is having a hard time. He cooks breakfast on Sundays and Seby always got dibs on what was to be cooked.
Hi proudmom - welcome. My son left on the 10th. It is hard but I keep telling myself it is what he wanted. All the moms here are great support so be sure to keep in touch.

YooHOO Ohio....you got you a side business going now!!! I think you need to get your little mind busy and start making SHIRTS and posters LOL

Angie.... not talking to you... you had a real life, no fair... you got to do real stuff and be normal... I got to buy a ham butt (or hock, I don't know) and wait for my favorite show to come on at 11:00 (central) tonight. I do have a question, what is Pre Buds??

Thomas and Adam's mom, are you talking about PIR?? I thought it was here too!!! I think your son shipped out the same day my daughter did, do you know his Ship/Division yet? I think alot of us are going to be in the same graduation time frame!!
