This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

We have a German Shephard that is crazy about smells. If I buy clothing at a store (vs. online, which I prefer to do) she will not stop smelling me. It drives me crazy! I don't know how I am going to get the box away from her:)

Hey everyone!!!

Patricks mom.... what time frame are you on? Australian? I can't believe you already go your box, I don't expect mine until next monday... who delivers it, the mailman or ups? I suppose you didn't have to sign?

Becky, we are a weird family here too!! but we have fun!!

Fleur, how you doing today? Did you get to talk to Mollie yet today? How long do they let yall talk, when you do talk?

I snuck into SOBE and SimplyJRB's PIR room (I think it was both of theirs LOL) just to get a glimpse as to what the next level of talk would be about, but I ran out quick, cause it's like they are the older sisters and we are the younger brats, peeking at them!! LOL

i never not thought of opening the box. so i was thinking the same thing reading about the ladies that didn't want to, that the clothes would be pretty stinky..lol so i opened it right away and got his clothes into the washing machine. i was lucky my son did get to scribble a little note in the box. just telling me that there was some paperwork stuck in one of his shoes to take out. on the letter all he wrote was that he wasn't sure what to write..lol he did mention that it wasn't too bad, but not too fun either.

Dana, I know, I can't wait to find out when PIR is, I'm a planner and it is killing me not to have those reservations made NOW!!

Fleur, sounds like your daughter has a good head on her shoulders. That's so bad that the recruiter and MEPs didn't know about the six month thing. Geez. Sorry you had to go through all of this. My son did a few years of college before joining, so that's always an option (and it helped earn him a bit of a higher rank going in.) Thinking of you both.

fourjems and foaling lady, welcome and you will learn a lot on this site, I've only been on here a few weeks and it is soooo helpful! Make sure you read the information the ladies posted in the main discussion groups!

Gotta catch up now..

Thanks for the advise Angie - I was wondering if I would be able to open the box, but it is very hot and humid in MN right now, and I would probably be wondering what the new smell in the house was! I, too, told my son to scribble a little message inside the cover of the box for me - so I will have to open to see. Hope I'm not disappointed!

Hi, all, still gotta catch up in reading, but I just got my BOX! I was surprised to see it on the front porch when I got home from a quick trip to school; I called my husband to see if he wanted to be there when it was opened, but he didn't care, so I ripped it open (Spike dog was sniffing it the whole time!). No note inside, but the cell phone arrived safely. Next, the letter!

Fleur - Still thinking of you and Mollie. I know it will work out for the best! She's lucky to have a mom like you!

OK... made the "mistake" of reading some stuff in the Ship 5 forum. Why do I do that? Now I'm all in knots again. I remember from when I was in BC the scenarios mentioned about why people were discharged; illness, injury, depression, etc...uh... too much to think about!

He doesn't have any medical problems but still... as a mom, I'm nervous! Why must I be such a worrier? Talk about need to get a grip!
