DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

Information

DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in August...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of August of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Sandy - I hope 8 weeks of bootcamp will change his mind or at least delay it til after A school.

My son should be leaving for Bootcamp on August 24th but he's changing his mind...*sigh* He was accepted into the Nuke program but has always wanted to be in Spec Ops and recently heard that you can change jobs....I'm scared. The Nuke programs seems so much safer!

Thanks Becky - I'm not planning to give him her address. I know that she will write him and give it to him. I'll never tell anyone that I got it from the recruiter a few weeks earlier. I think by the time she's in A school he will be a thing of the past. It will be a long time from August til she come home at Christmas.

@ Kate. My son went to BC last December. We had an agreement before he left. If something happened within our immediate family -- me, his dad and his brother -- he wanted to know immediately. If it was part of the extended family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., we decided to wait until after BC. Now when he's underway he asked that we don't text him bad news. We just wait until he's in port and talk with him by phone. That may or may not work for you. During my son's BC another mom had to deal with her sailor's best friends being in a really bad accident (one died). After talking with the recruiter they decided to call GL and have the mom give him the news personally (so he didn't hear it by mail from his other friends, I guess). I really think it depends on the mom, the situation and the sailor. But it's always good to have some agreements before they ship out.

anyone's child have a boyfriend/girlfriend? Mine does... I hope she forgets about him... and enjoys Navy life.

Well, I guess we are on the final count down now. My son leaves Aug. 10th and the clock is ticking. He said he is so ready to go as he has been a DEPP for almost a year now. He has one last bowling tournament next week and I am planning his Going to the Navy Party so my mind is busy - but my heart a little scared. So here we go - ready for not!

Kate, My advice would be to ask you son if he wants to be told or wait. If she passes while he is in BC you can contact the Red Cross and they can get word to your son. They will call him to somewhere quiet and probably have a Chaplain give him the news. You can get more info about this from his recruiters or I am almost positive it is sent to you with other info from your son when he first gets to GL.

Fleur, at least your daughter will be physically fit and not be sore her first few days, Tiffany can't work out so she will be paying the price of all that running and stuff. Your daughters weight will probably fall off once she starts boot.

Sharon - Only other military Mom's understand. My daugther is trying to lose some weight, so I can't give any advice there. She's running & working out. She's dropped about 5 lbs, and it has stopped.

Jessica, she tried those shakes but they fill her up too fast :) Maybe lots of cokes and cookies LOL

Hi Fleur... I'm glad you are on here too. We met in another group but I don't know where I was then. LOL I think you and I are in the same boat with our girls.... Tiffany is really pulling away too... Lucky for us we have here to come because no one in the real world understands.
