Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.
If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)
So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

New Navy Mom, it all depends on if there are others arriving after them or not as to whether they have a wait or not. Some are at the airport for a few hours and others not long at all after arrival--barely having time to grab a quick snack before leaving. He will find out once he gets there.
I don't know about being shuttled immediately. My son's plane arrived at O'Hara yesterday at 10pm and his GF got the I am here call at 1:40am.
I got up date text messages from my son yesterday, from Portland, Me to Philadelphia, PA. He called his GF at 1:40 am with I am hear call. We did not go to the airport, but did spend almost the entire day with him the day before. We thought we would drop him off at 2 and say our goodbyes. But what a surprise that he could sign out and spend so much time with him. We had a nice dinner overlooking Portland Harbor then we took him back to the hotel.
NewNavyMom; he will call you throughout the day if he has cell phone. I was so worried that I wouldn't hear from my son. they have to turn their phone off when they get to O'Hare before they get on the bus, and my son's on off button was broke so I was so upset that I wouldn't get the call, but someone lent him their phone, God bless that recruit who lent him the phone. I love this website N4M it really has helped me so much, My son only left two days ago, and I have learned so much, especially, just cry when you need to,
LLLamaMama3: My son arrived yesterday. He called me from PHL airport, Then O'Hare, then about 3 hours after that I got "The Call". I Finally slept a little last night. This N4M site, I am convinced, has gotten be through these last few days.
Cry when you need to no matter where it is, I am learning that because no matter what the tears just seem to flow and you cant stop them. I really tried not to cry when he left, I didn't want him to remember me crying, and he asked me not to. but it was so darn hard. Everywhere I go reminds me of him.
My son went to MEPS today with the recruiter. We actually spent most of the day together, unexpectedly. He had to report at 11:00, but his driver had to do PT with some other recruits, so we went to lunch, came back and hung out at the office and talked with some other recruits. Finally they left about 2:40 for Sacramento. My husband and I will be there in the morning for his swearing in ceremony and watch him leave. I'm feeling good, but it is really strange to think he will not be here for a long time. Even setting the table tonight was weird. My thoughts are with all of you with that August ship date.
well we leave tommorrow around 1:00 to head to St Louis, trying to get there at a decent time to be able to maybe take our son out to dinner and get a few hours with him. Then all the festivites thursday morning and watch him take his final oath on the St Louis Cardinals field. I'm doing ok now and excited to see him even though he's only been gone since yesterday and I've talked to him all day yesterday and today.. It will be so hard to actually leave him after the game thursday afternoon.. :-(
