OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My daughter is also leaving 10/2/18. She too is cleaning out her room and is arranging for a garage sale! Getting themselves prepared is a good thing.

Keep yourself busy. I hope we get to meet at PIR!

Comment by Caligirl67 on September 3, 2018 at 11:31am: Leaving October 2 2018. On count down and trying to enjoy plus get ready. Came home the other day and he was packing up things in his room he didn't have a need for. That was hard on me. I had to walk away to hide the tears.

Comment by lemonelephant on August 29, 2018 at 1:43am: Sailormom96, the number of recruits and divisions in any TG depends on the needs of the Navy and takes the holidays into account. Most of the recruits arriving the first week of October will be in the first TG of the 2019 Navy fiscal year. It appears that future Sailors are shipping every week in October. Comment by lemonelephant on August 22, 2018 at 2:04pm: If there is a PIR on 12/28/2018, then your Sailor will leave for A" School the next day since Christmas will have already happened earlier that week. There are extra days built in, so there will not be a problem with having everything done in time even with the holiday. It is possible that your recruit will not have PIR until 01/04/2019 because of the weeks in December when there is no PIR. If that is the case, then your recruit may be part of the the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program; that would depend on which two TG's are included in the program. There was a PIR on 12/28/2012, so it is possible that there will be a PIR on 12/28/2018. It all depends on the needs of the Navy. You will just have to wait and see when you receive The Form Letter, which now takes 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC to come, to know the PIR date for sure. http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/tg_grad_dates.html will have the PIR dates.

Comment by stin on August 22, 2018 at 9:25am: Sons date was rolled back to Oct 30th. Counting forward the 9 Fridays puts us smack dab in the Middle of Christmas and NY holiday weekend. Knowing nothing is certain, do they shift anything during holidays? Getting approved vacation at this time is not easy and I need to put it in right now. Do they delay their departures at all? Any possible circumstances needed. TIA.

Comment by Phoenixmom on August 13, 2018 at 2:25pm: Hi Folks I would like to reach out to those that are New or maybe the ones who their Loved Ones havent Left as of yet, this site that I am about to post should be read by Your Son/Daughter beforehand. Don't know if the Recruiting office is letting them know what needs to be passed before attending or able to Graduate. So please those whose Loved Ones who havent left yet read along with them and make sure they can pass this beforehand. Many are struggling and if this can be worked on before and passed it will help them when they get here to BC.

Please stay strong and keep your head up. right now many of you are probably going thru the rollercoaster of emotions and that is ok, we all will and have gone thru it. just keep the faith and ask questions. go to boot camp for loved ones you will find much info from Ladies that are experiencing the same as you. Glad to have you all along!
