Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Ok, just got back from seeing son sworn in. He was one of the first to fly out to Great Lakes, so should be at BC later tonight. :) I posted pics on my page, just waiting for them to be approved. Go have a look when you get a sec. Thanks to everyone for your support. Oh ya, I got to meet a few parents there today and that was GREAT, one was even a Nuke mom like me so I hope we all get to stay in touch. :)

My son texted when they landed last night, checked in okay and went to get some food, said he ordered like $28 worth lol. Got our Im here call about 11:30. I think they're were about 9 of them from Tampa yesturday :)
Marysuemcc and all you moms with recruits just leaving,
Won't lie to you, it is tough waiting for the "I'm here" call and then waiting on the form letter and the box. However, it helped me to read the links on this site about boot camp, check out the videos and pdfs. There is one video on this site that shows what it is like when recruits arrive and go through Processing. It helped me to have an idea of what they are going through. Unfortunately letter and phone calls are hard to come by (my SR left Oct 1 and I have had 1 "real" letter and no phone calls yet) but am hanging in there. You'll come to live by "no news is good news". But these SRs are making a wonderful commitment to themselves and to our country. So proud of each and every one. God bless them all (and their loved ones).
just dropped my son off at Recruiter in NJ yesterday..it was a tougher day than I thought it would be......
i wish i knew what time they would be arriving at Great Lakes.
I am a teacher and will have my phone with me and "ON" (which i don't usually do during teaching day) because i don't want to miss that call !!!
Just received a call from the hotel...leaving tomorrow at ?.....for Chicago...does
anyone know what time is Swear In?
got the text from my son that his flight just landed in chicago...he was told that his call home would probably come between 10p-3am tonight...sleeping with the phone for sure-don't want to miss the only call for 3 weeks!
Just dropped our Grandson off this morning at the recruiters"....will be leaving from San Diego tomorrow....I'm sure that he won't be alone...he's was looking forward to starting a new adventure in his life....congrat's to all of you...like they say "Smooth Sailing"....Smiles to all ...
{{{{hugs}}}} to all you moms sending your kids off this week. You will be able to take comfort in the small milestones these next few weeks as well as celebrate with others here.
Just know whatever you are feeling is normal and we understand here :)
Dinner last night was great, actually had one of his closest friends there who was shipping out at the same time but for the Marines Said our goodbyes in the parking lot for a little privacy. I handed him a letter for all the things I couldnt say out loud :) Tried to make it a proud and encouraging moment for him so he wouldnt be upset. He was able to text me that he is all sworn in and he's having lunch. Today is just so much harder than I even thought it could be! But I am so proud.
