For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

One more, this site is not working with me, I hope it's not huge. This is Bastrop "Lost Pines" nearby where my son went to Scout camp every year.

DDM, there was plenty of green that has been burning across Texas....it's the winds that make the difference. We have almost 20 people unaccounted for in just the Bastrop Fire. Please be safe...and prepared in case that evac notice comes knocking on your door.
We're watching things closely here, and we have our emergency bags packed, and my big ol box of family history!
Your son is doing the job he trained to do, and you will hear all about it when he comes home!!

DDM, be safe. Pack an emergency bag with your paperwork, insurance stuff, birth certificates, etc. Medicines, dog food, some clothing and anything that really matters to you that will fit in your car. If they say evacuate GO...these fires can be so fast, so deadly. Please pay attention to the news!! Find a fire map online in your area and keep an eye on it. Be safe!!!

Sorry for the double post, I've been trying to load that photo here all day. I finally just copied and pasted it. This is in Bastrop County. The guy on the horse is a local musician, rescuing livestock. His brother is in the truck and took the photo. We drove that section yesteday, it's black as tar in some spots and totally untouched in others. I hope you can send this to your son, Denise, if not, message me and I'll email it directly to you.

Denise, truly an American story, thank you so much for sharing it, I met a woman here on N4M who married a Russian immigrant who is now serving in the US Army. My son talks very fondly of immigrants who lay their lives on the line for the USA without the benefit of citizenship.
I got a close up view of the fires in the Bastrop area today before dark...so bleak and strange...areas all black and moon like ...interspersed with untouched areas ....just how the fire went. On the way back after dark, you could still see tree trunks burning, and it was so, so smoky. I'm very proud of our communities responding to such tragedy, whole "stores" of donations, all sorted and available under tents in parking lots...even with "personal shoppers" also known as people who know where everything it...I hope they end soon, the tension of living surrounded by fire is hard, I cannot imagine the pain of those who have lost everything. So much livestock and pets are being found, if they didn't get out. Denise, if I don't remember please remind me to post a photo for your son...

Marcy, I heard of those for sailors on ships. My sailor was only on a ship for one deployment, and he told me not to worry with them. They might not be of any use in the sleeping quarters over seas.
