While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

****Red Cross and Help for the Military, Emergency Notificaton Link to the Red Cross Military Assistance page, on the left is a list of links to important sites, including the phone numbers if you need to notify your deployed loved one of a family emergency. This note: Beginning June 13, 2011, at 8:00 a.m. EDT, all military members and their
families can use one number- 877-272-7337 (U.S. Toll Free) to send an urgent
message to a service member. The change means that all military members and
their families can use this single number to initiate an emergency communication, regardless of where they live.

Coaching Into Care

Coaching Into Care works with family members or friends who become aware of their Veteran’s post-deployment difficulties—and supports their efforts to find help for the Veteran.

This is a national clinical service providing information and help to Veterans and the loved ones who are concerned about them.
Defense Center of Excellence information and help for TBI and PTS for active military, vets and their families.

After Deployment... This web site is VERY useful to service members, family and loved ones after the return of a loved one from deployment.

Military Pathways Facebook

To help those who may be struggling, the DoD teamed up with the nonprofit organization Screening for Mental Health to launch Military Pathways (TM), also known as the Mental Health Self-Assessment Program (MHSAP). The program is available online and at special events held at installations worldwide. Check us out at militarymentalhealth.com. It provides free, anonymous mental health and alcohol self-assessments for family members and service personnel in all branches including the National Guard and Reserve.

Comment by Debby on March 17, 2011 at 9:41am: TDM first thing I thought was PTSD, but then my son told me more.. Josh's mom died 3 weeks ago from cancer, Josh was waiting on the Navy to discharge him on medical, he had tumor removed a while back and the Navy said then they were going to discharge him.. a year and a half later he was still waiting on that discharge. I dont blame the Navy for this of course its never someones fault when a person commits suicide but I guess he lost hope.. I dont know we are still getting details at this point. I was just going through some of the pictures of the guys on that first deployment Josh was a handsome man with a beautiful family, my son was saying he didnt get it Josh had everything to live for.. I tried to tell him that when depression grabs you sometimes you can't see what you have you only have pain. So all the guys are planning to be in Delaware next week for the funeral. My son is going to check and find out if there is some kind of fund being established for the kids, we plan on making a contribution..

TDM I was also thinking about the transitions group.. sorry I didnt reply sooner.. that would be a great idea.. learning so much more about the stupid MGI bill everyday.. like... if there are only 2 weeks of school.. they only get 2 weeks pay.. if they take the summer off from school.. no pay.. I am a bit upset that our government thinks they dont need the money when school is out.. like Christmas break.. no pay.. spring break no pay.. awesome hu?

What burdens he was carrying, how alone he must have felt, and it leaves all who loved him wondering why he didn't know he could turn to them. I'm sorry for this family and for his fellow sailors who loved him, served with him, and have to learn this terrible lesson that suicide brings to us.

God has him now, he'll hold him and heal him.

My son is devastated..one of our Riverines committed suicide, he was awaiting a medical discharge from the Navy due to some serious medical issues, his Mom died 3 weeks ago due to cancer, his wife and child were not in VA Bch at the time they were in Texas waiting for him to come home.. RIP Josh I pray God brings you into his kingdom and gives you the peace you deserve..
