I am so very new to this deployment feeling. I have gone down to the VA and turned in my paperwork to Volunteer there. I am so very close to the huge Bay Pines VA in St. Petersburg. They called me yesterday and the Orientation is March 22nd. I am so looking forward to volunteering there. I need to stay active.

Hope you all are safe and out of harm's way of the tsunami areas.

When I was about 24, I was going to drive across country with my 2year old daughter....1972...Texas to California...and our neighbor was asking my mother about it...how could she be so calm. My mom, Navy wife for 27 years, said.." I drove across country 5 times to meet a ship, in a 1940 Ford, with all the kids in the back seat...she's in a brand new car, she'll be fine." I always appreciated her faith in me to do what I needed to do when I needed to do it. I grew up in a Navy community of women like that, I know Missy and the other spouses have the strength to do this, they belong to a great community of support (like us!).

You are not alone, Missy, we're here for you.

rysony, hope your son is better! and so glad to hear you're going to have the grandkids close at hand for a visit...photos, please!

Just heard from my son. He got sick as a dog with food poisoning like symptoms. They had to give him 3 bags of IV. He feels a little better.

I think all the time of Ryan's wife. In fact she is visiting next week with the children. She is such a big support to my son and a big support to me. I can't even imagine how hard it is for her since they just had twins on Sept 29th. We made a vow to support each other. Missy what you said about your husband , best friend, confidant was very moving. I could have written it the wrong way.

TDM I was looking at the pups face poor pup.. Everytime my sailor would come home MIsty would come give him loves but stayed aloof with him.. its like she knew he was leaving.. now that he is home for good she still hasnt totally warmed up to him yet I think she's waiting to be sure he isnt leaving..

Missy I think being parent and a spouse is totally different your exactly right.. and as a mom I gave birth to him.. cleaned off his boo boo's dried his tears and scared the boogie man out from the bed.. I spent my entire life protecting him from the evils of the world and now my sons  have  been face to face with the devil and there is nothing I can do to protect them..  Since I was a single parent when my son's were growing up they were my life my reason for living..  I think one thing that you might want to do is check the base for support groups.. I know the Army has them for my daughter in law when my Army son deploys again.. remember regardless we all have a loved one deployed that makes us all a group of people that really do not want to be long to this group.. but thank goodness for it!! We all need support. so dont forget we are always here for you..

TDM I forgot to comment on the transitions group.. I think its a good idea.. I am working on my stuff to know list..  the big thing.. It doesn't matter that they gave the VA the dd214... the VA portion that handles the GI bill has to have their own copy which is the DD214 Member - 4 copy LOL argh.. over nighted that one out yesterday.. valuable lesson there!! :)   My former sailor is doing ok.. he has moments here and there.. he has his physicals/tests at the VA on April 1st for his enrollment/eligibility portion.. no job yet so he keeps saying he's joining the marines.. argh!!! But he is doing awesome in school.. A's in every class as of today.. :)

Missy, I'm sure no one thought you were being disrespectful. There are all types of love in this world, and when a loved one, be it parent, child or spouse, is in a war zone, there is pain and longing, terrible fear by all of us left at home. I wouldn't dare to assume one was in worse pain than another.

I grew up with a single mom after my dad's death, and was a single mom myself for 14 years, I can certainly relate to being it all...but it was a great education, I learned a lot. Good luck to you!

LInk to Snoco's page....  Snoco is a little dog, whose "mom" is being deployed. The woman who started this facebook page is known as "she" by Snoco. A couple of weeks ago, they had a trial to make sure Snoco would do okay...and then he went with his mom again...today was the day of goodbye. You can see it in his face.

Deployment feels very similar to grief. You tuck it in for awhile and try not to think about it, but evidentually it sticks it's ugly head out and you are faced with the raw facts. That is just a good time to let it out because it is not going away any time soon and you just learn to live with it like a bad headache. I miss him so so much and when they are married and have children you are sharing that prime spot that was always yours but you go on and pray and know that Angels can fly!
