My son's have gotten every package through many many deployments.. I sent my Army son his computer after breaking mine a couple weeks ago and I did insure it.. I usually dont insure them though.. I never put anything in them worth insuring.. I would recommend however that you mark your custom forms.. to return it to you or its treated as abandoned and tossed..

I mailed package every week through 3 deployments. I never insured anything. He recieved every package.

One thing my son said was if you insured your package is would be held up at there post office because they had to go and get it. Things that were not insured followed them to wherever they were.

I am sure if I was mailing something like a laptop or something of large value, I would have insured it. But I was just mailing supplies that he requested or goodies I wanted his to have.

Last night this site was weird anyway, no "icons" showing up, just the little red x in each person's icon spot by the posts and in the members box, so maybe that's why the pic didn't load. Make sure no one can tell where they are, but I'd love to see that photo..sounds classic!

So glad the foxsox worked out, tonib, thanks for letting us know! Keep sending them their laundry facilities (or maybe it's the water) suck. My son sent home a box, the dog went nuts, she could smell him before I opened it. and when I pulled out the t shirts, she rolled in them! I asked him why he sent home dirty laundry from Iraq and he said "hey! I washed those before I sent that box!" well, they were not fresh smelling at all, but the dog and I loved his scent being in his room one more time!

I sent him a bunch of lotions, etc before it got hot, and of course, everything went into baggies in the packages. One he liked was that Yellow vit E cream you get in the big jar at Sam's. He said they use them all, they don't care if they smell "girly" or anything, whatever keeps the sting away.

Toni I just send my Soldier in Iraq a box of burts.. I love burts.. I have the tendancy to leave lip balm in my car and although it will melt down it doesnt turn into a greasy water like so many others.. it can withstand high heats and does a great job.. So I got a box of like 24?? and sent them for my son's unit...

MY sailor was in Iraq when he made Petty Officer and said it was a private thing with his unit.. and that his shoulders bled for a week after it was over :) so no pictures :(

Yes, it is wonderful when you get good news regarding promotions. I have an ace in the hole, my DIL. If there are pictures you bet she's going to get them to me. She's the best!

Congratulations to all!

Lynda! that's exciting, and lovely to get good news from that hell hole!! do they do any type of ceremony? I know they have some sort of thing onboard ship when promotions are given, maybe you will get a picture? my son is TERRIBLE at sharing those photos if they exist! I get a phone call "hey mom..." like it's no big deal...altho he was pretty excited the time he made Petty Officer. But still no ceremony pictures. I mean, good grief, even telephones have cameras!

If you get one and there's nothing in the background to break security, please share it!! and tell him your Navy moms are military moms, and proud of him, too.

SUPER! You must be ao proud of your son! Doesn't it just make your heart nearly skip a beat? It is so nice when our sons and daughters get a promotion! And congratulations to you too! He is (after all) YOUR son!

Cathy, go to the website of his unit, they will have some contact information there, maybe a parent coordinator. Or at least a chaplin's contact info, that office will have the info you need.

JJ...good to hear your son is home from Afghanistan! but sorry about his wife, geez, girl, some grandmas will do anything to get their hands on those grandbabies...jk...my youngest grandbaby will be 15 on Sunday! Enjoy that tiny one, they don't stay that way long. I'm sure Diane is thankful you are close at hand to step in like that. Hope she gets better soon. I bet this wasn't in her plans for when your son returned....

Hello everyone! Just to let you all know that my son is also home from Afghanistan. He, his wife (Diane) and their baby Kate came in last Tuesday from Virginia. To make a long story short, Diane was not feeling well and ending up in the hospital with Viral Menegitis. She remains there so we have all been going up to visit her and taking care of the baby (no problem with me...love my new granddaughter, she is so cute). We have been sending extra prayers for Diane's quick recovery. Wish you all a very good day.
