I have not, Kristine. I actually mentioned this to my son and he said he'd rather I was there at the homecoming (which I couldn't do! but cher did!), then he asked me how well I would do at strip clubs and bars, because that's what sailors and Marines do before deploying...so I said...:"ok"...and stayed home!
a reminder on the fox sox, be sure to get regular old cotton white sox as well, if they are where there is moisture and wet conditions, fox sox evidently soak it up and aren't all that helpful...but are great for day to day dry condtions in boots. And my son really liked those little Vit C flavored packets for water, I used them as "filler" in the packages, they fit anyplace.

N08M...welcome. We don't always meet people at their highest moments, but we all try to be here for the lower ones. What's your son's rank/job?

Ring...Ring went my cell phone yesterday. On the other end was my daughter-in-law. The first words out of her mouth were, "Eric is on his way home!!" She further told me that he was leaving Afghanistan and on his way to Kuwait, where he will be awaiting a plane to head towards the great US of A. She was so excited. Of course, I couldn't tell her that I had talked with Eric a few days ago and he informed me of his return. He wanted it to be a surprise for Diane and Baby Kate. Plus he trusts his mom not to spoil a surprise!! So there is my good news, which will turn into SUPER, GREAT news when he steps off the plane back here in the States!! Hope all of you have a wonderful day, and hope that your news will always be good.

Still love to read good news when I come here...homecomings, safe returns to the base in the sand, promotions...my dad was a LT commander when I was born in Newfoundland...but they didn't want to let me in the US at age 2 because he had no birth certificate! standing there in uniform, my brothers and me and mom in tow...and they wanted to chat about his citizenship or not...my big bro just said "we'll stay here" and was on his way to the door with me when my mom grabbed him! Born in 1910 in Oklahoma territory, no birth certificate!

I figured out he enlisted at 16 at the latest...his recruit sailor photo looks just like my grandson at 14, same size head, face...it was hard times back then. So young...they are all so young.

Hi Ladies.. I heard from my soldier in Iraq he is back on base after his mission and fine.. also got some good news.. my brother just made Lieutenant Commander and is on his way to Seattle where he will be stationed for the next 3 years... My sailor is doing fine since his return 6 weeks ago from Iraq.. him and a couple of his buddies just moved into their house and he's settling in to the daily routine of being stateside..

Sounds like a lot of good things going on here... glad to see so many starting their final countdowns to come home...

Ok I can now say mine has safely left Afghanistan and is in Kuwiat on his way stateside. He should make it to his home by July 3rd.

What I learn from his 10 month deployment is I can now spell Afghanistan correctly!

Can't wait until we can talk with him on the phone without being worried about what we say.

Helen, hopefully that means as an OR nurse she's safe on a larger base!! and busy is always good, makes the time go faster for her.

It's one reason my son said he wanted to deploy again, he was always busy in Iraq, always something to do...

The only picture that I have of my son's deployment was the one that came thru the parent coordinator, of the side of his head as he and the other corpsmen were diggin in a package in the BAS...that's the only one!! made me crazy!! he had a brand new camera! and his computer!! uggghhh!

The Navy has never reimbursed my son for any traveling in his car,etc...or transport of it. Now that he will be transferred in the US proper, he is getting some travel time and pay to do so. I think you have to be a certain rank to get those types of dollars out of the USN.
