Welcome to our world, Betty. You will meet the most supportive people on the planet right here. I would suggest reading back as you have time, and checking the discussions area, and ordering your son's socks from fox sox, he will think of you every time he dresses!

Debby, have you had that hug yet? is he boots down in your living room?

Becky I am getting his card today! My Sailor turned 20 while on deployment in Iraq.. and my Soldier will turn 21 on his deployment Michael will be ok Becky and you will make it too..... today I am celebrating my son coming home but in 2 weeks another son leaves for the sand and right now I am trying not to think about it because I know I will break down if I do.. I guess at least God knew not to put them both there at the same time.. I have no clue how I would handle that... Debby

After reading Becky's post I almost feel guilty.. but I have to share this because I only get a couple weeks of happiness before my Army son ships out to Iraq... My Sailor is NOW out of Iraq! with boots on ground coming soon... :)

Becky I know how your feeling.. I know those calls I know those dreams.. I even know the horrible nightmares that have kept me up through so many deployments.. our babys get through it and its our jobs to remain strong regardless of the fact we want to die inside... We are all here for you this is the place we get to let our guards down and poor out our emotions...

Once this is all over I think all of us mom's need to plan a trip to Vegas or somewhere quiet so we can all be together to destress..

We're here, Becky. and we all know your fears and share them...and the anguish of knowing you can't be the one to keep your child safe. But your son is doing his job, and he is serving with others who will watch his back as he watches theirs...and he will come home to you and your family. Keep typing, keep loving those boys, keep that dog close, I would have gone out of my mind without my Boomer and Rosie. They just know, don't they? You know what? if those dogs could have talked at the time, probably they would have said I did slip over that line a time or two...
I hate being scared. I know you do too.

That change in voice, I know what you mean, but I decided it just meant that my son was the most serious I had ever known him, not necessarily frightened or apprehensive, just mature and aware and paying attention. Grown up. Very grown up.

you are not alone, Becky.

No it never gets easier. Third tour, many weeks to go until he returns stateside.

I just keep telling myself that he loves his job and he chooses to do this job. Its what keeps me sane.

On a more practical front, when our troops are in the sand, they are supposed to receive a per deim of 3.50 per day. The Marines in my son's unit all got that on their paychecks, but the Navy personnel were supposed to get it as one check. My son has yet to receive his, he says only about 10 of the 50 or so Navy guys have gotton it. What path do we follow to find out about this? Anyone else have this problem? or know anything about it?
