Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

To help those who may be struggling, the DoD teamed up with the nonprofit organization Screening for Mental Health to launch Military Pathways (TM), also known as the Mental Health Self-Assessment Program (MHSAP). The program is available online and at special events held at installations worldwide. Check us out at militarymentalhealth.com. It provides free, anonymous mental health and alcohol self-assessments for family members and service personnel in all branches including the National Guard and Reserve.

I sent salsa...some in glass containers, well packed. But the best was the salsa I got at Costco, large plastic containers, two packed together, I wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a ziplock. He said all arrived okay. As long as it wasn't Pace Salsa, he was okay with it.

In this area, we have a number of post offices--we all know which ones to use and which one not to go to when sending boxes! I didn't do it, but some moms sent canned hams which we aren't supposed to do.

I've been sending the 2 oz bottles of energy drinks to mine son. My mailman said the same thing. :)

If you belong to Sam's Club, you can buy cases of baby wipes. My son used them to clean weapons as well as himself. I bagged almost everything i could because he could use them to protect other things. Make sure your priority box from the PO weighs at least 5 lbs. to get your money's worth. I always put in cans of ravioli or chili. He loved easymac and jerky, but those don't weigh much.

As strange as this sounds, I know of Marines in Iraq that we've sent tampons for their first aid kits. Good for nose bleeds and wounds. We've sent some of the "survival kits" too. Carla, great to have them all in one place that I can copy!

I don't know if anyone remembers when I posted about my son sending a box from Iraq...and how the dog sniffed it like crazy, she thought Matt was in there, I swear..and so I opened it...to find "dirty" laundry! We all laughed..When he was home, I asked him why the hell did he send home dirty laundry. and he said "I DIDN'T, MOM, THOSE CLOTHES WERE FRESHLY WASHED!" He said, the laundry's stink over there mom and evidently they do!

Ladies....Heard from my son today and he says they have gotten at least 3 inches of snow since last night. The are expecting more snow today.

Good Morning Ladies!
I don't know how to thank you for all your wonderful suggestions! Especially how to get the hand warmers for half price. I live in Tucson, so hand warmers are not common around here. I am a skier though and am VERY familiar with them. (Yes, we have fantastic skiing conditions in northern AZ mountains).
I will pass all your suggestions on to Molly's Adopt a Sailor group and they can decide which items they will be shipping over to Afghanistan.
If you think of anything else please continue to post as I'll remain a "member" of this group for the rest of this month and possibily longer. I'm pushing to adopt more units from Afghanistan in February as well. With all the troops shipping out to Afghanistan, I think they will need our support.
