I sent some stuff, including Oreo cookies, via WalMart online services. When my sailor got the package, it was ant infested and had to go straight to the dumpster. He was thankful for the thought, but I decided no more sending food from online services. I only send packages from home. My husband can pack like William. I don't think anyone said anything to my son about the ants. It sounds like it is a common problem.
Don't send sticky stuff like cupcakes or brownies though, the ants get into it even in the mail room Lol. We used to pack stuff so tight and tape up the seams so they cannot smell it. When my son was there some kid got send a package of sweets and the ants got in there then they were swarming the whole mail room and inside the box was infested with ants. They were laughing about it later but I am sure that guy caught heck for it.
sunshine66, my son is in boot camp right now. do most nukes leave on Sat after PIR? I'm staying Sat night, just in case he flys out on Sun.
Bethr311, my son isn't even in bootcamp yet, and we have a similar problem with Grandma. Just stress that it's important to go with whatever is best for your son and share the experienced Moms' comments that he may not have time to call, even if he wants to -- and that expecting him to call on a set schedule may add to his stress -- that being willing for him to call on his schedule may "help" him greatly. Good luck and keep us posted!
I would LOVE to get your email address!! I'll send you a friend request!
Hi, vikiboo! My daughter is an MM and just finished prototype - graduation is Friday. I might be able to answer female-specific questions for you. If you want my email adress, let me know.
By the way, daughter's stay at Goose Creek started with them assigning her a male roomie! It ended up being a good thing because she had a room to herself for all but the last week of A school.
Thank you so much for all the info! I'll probably be nagging you all after 5/3. Just curios if anyone knows and Girl MM's?
vikiboo, My sailor son is an MM. He left for BC Nov 2010. I was at Power School graduation Dec 2011, and Prototype grad in Ballston Spa NY Dec of 2012. He is now on the USS Eisenhower. Any question specific, or just to chat PM me.
