Congrats, Binker&Drewdle.  So cool!  Where is Binker now?  I remember when our boys were in BC together--it seems SO long ago!

Welcome to the new moms!  Yes, this site is a great support for you.  We share our good times and bad.

My sailors has his five-week test in ELT tomorrow.  Fingers crossed for him and his classmates.

Binker&Drewdle, I'm so glad to hear from you again!  You have been missed. Congrats on Nuke#2. I wonder how it will be for you since you have been through it before. Best of luck to both your sailors, and to you. You inspire us!

My sailor thinks he will be done in BS in Sept as ELT then deployment. He doesn't particularly want Washington as a base. What does your sailor think of it? Emily seems to like it there.

Congrats to you Proudmom.  Wow, two kids in the Navy--I don't know how moms like you do it.  I am getting more gray hair by the day LOL  We are going to see our son next week and he will finish A school in Sept.  Enjoy your visit with your daughter...I know how excited you must be to see her.

Just booked my flight to Atlanta where I will be meeting my son next month.  I can't wait!  I am assuming he cannot wait either.  There seems to be an awful lot of stress down in GC.  We need to pray for all our sailors not just for the friends and families of those who have suffered recent losses.  I also hope and pray that the Navy can recognize those at risk and start intervening before it is too late.

Welcome cincymomdp and Txgal-Donna.   This is  a great site for support and information.  I have learned so much so if you have questions just ask.  Some of the first care packages I sent to my son included some of his civilian clothes.  Also one was from our Bible study group.  Everyone contributed something be it gum, gift card, music cd, food or a book.  It was fun for us and him.

*****Contest update*****

We have had a jump in members, so as of now are 4 away from 1800.  I have recorded guesses on my calendar and at this point we have 2 people on the11th, 1 on the 12th, 2 on the 14th, then 1 on the 19th, and 2 on the 20th.  If we hit 1800 on one of the days no one chose, I expect whoever is closest I will send the sun catcher/s to.

Good to see you Binker's Mom.  Wishing all the best to your 2nd sailor.

Hello All!

Just had to go change my name! Number 2 just got the call from the recruiter: He's been approved for Nuke, leaving in Jan. Binker leaves soon for an 8 month deployment. My how things have moved!

Comment by William in Nashua on July 9, 2012 at 8:09pm

Txgal-Donna sometimes they are too busy to pick up packages right away.  I used to send my son Ultrathon insect repellent, vitamins, razors, instant noodles (particular Asian brands not the grocery store kind LOL).   Better to avoid anything sweet or perishable.  If you send home made baked goods seal it in freezer bags and make sure to bake enough for everyone LOL.

Comment by tina41 on July 9, 2012 at 7:35pm

hello all!!

txgal---yes!  you can send packages while they are in school.   i usually let my son know when i am sending it so he knew it was on its way.   i sent my son one at least once a month. i usually asked him if there was something he would like, then i would send him a little something extra.

tjl---hope you enjoyed your time with your son!!!  it is always nice when we get to see them.  i will be leaving soon to head there for power school graduation.  i am always praying for them!!!
