Yeah, Mark I was aware of this, they are due to move to Everett in Dec of this year, but thanks for the info incase I didn't already know. I'm sort of an information geek and have already read as much as I could and have much more to research and learn. Kids are all out on there own and I don't watch much TV. His orders were to report to Everett but I haven't had much time to talk to him. Will have plenty of time while we drive to west coast from NY at end of month. We may drive to Seattle and look around sometime during his 30 or so days at home until he has to report in early June.

He wanted duty on the John Stennis but happy with what he got. I'm happy it's west coast.

Thanks Emily~ That sounds a LOT better than 20% ! I appreciate that. That is not so stunningly awful! :)

Good to hear your son got the duty he wanted, Dana. Right now, the Nimitz is in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA until late this year or early next year. It's undergoing some extensive work there, before it goes up to Everett to replace the Abraham Lincoln, which is due for refueling on the east coast next year. Just letting you know that it will be a little while before he's in Everett.

Oops. That's supposed to say fail rate... not rail rate. Time for me to go to bed...
Comment by Emily-aaronsgirl11 on April 13, 2011 at 10:08pm
seadreamstudio- I asked our recruiter about the rail rate about a month ago... He said about 60% of Nukes make it through the entire pipeline. Not great, not horrible. After all, some colleges have graduation rates (rate of students that graduate in less than 5 years) less than that...

Mary- I hear ya about the dogs! Our big dogs have pretty much made the front yard a mud pit and living in rainy ol' Washington makes it worse! They've flinged mud on the ceiling!

So glad your sailor got his first choice, Dana. I am hoping the same for my son when the time comes, he is definitely a west coast boy. His first choice will probably be San Diego, but Everett would be quite acceptable too.

Spring cleaning, when my husband hires someone. My new official 'Nuke" has orders to the USS Ninitz in Everett, WA. Am flying out to NY for his graduation April 29th then driving with him to California with all his 'stuff' and get him for 30 days which includes his 24th birthday and Mother's Day. Everett is 650 miles and 12 hours away so I might get to visit or get a visit from him, Yeah, better than being 3000 miles away or in Japan. He's happy as was his first choice of areas to be and I'm very happy.

RE: spring cleaning ... back when I was a single lass, I had an older and wiser friend who counseled me "Don't spring clean, MOVE." This was her motto for ovens, shower stalls, garages .. of course, she'd give this kind of advice with a glass of wine in her hand! And move she did, frequently, from apartment to apartment. I think of her often when I find feathers (from a parakeet that croaked years ago) or Christmas tree needles (embedded in the baseboards in July) ... all you need to know about my domestic skills is on the writing above my stove: "Dinner's ready when the smoke alarm goes off."
Comment by SonandSea on April 13, 2011 at 5:47pm
Sounds more reasonable. I have great confidence in my son, but I would not want him in any sort of program that had an 80% failure rate. He's only human...
