Thanks, Gail. I've read a little about t-track on this website. Sorry they have to be delayed until October but the rest from studying will be good for Scott. He feels the pressure of being successful but has remained upbeat and positive throughout. The Navy is really helping him learn a mature attitude toward the responsibilities of life. I couldn't be happier that he is where he is right now. I hope your Eric is doing well.

Hi to Gail M and others who may be able to answer my questions. My son graduates A School on July 24th and thought he would get leave. Then he told me a week later he wouldn't get leave until the end of August. What determines when they get leave? If this means he will be starting power school right away I guess that's a good thing. Sounds like others are on hold for some of their training. Is there a place to track important dates for my son's class (0931A)?

Lori - I got kinda carried away - Short Stay does have a camping area also. We drove thru. Looked really nice. Wooded. They are a separate tent area and even a couple small cabin type buildings with no facilites, just protected so you aren''t in a tent.

Lori - you asked about camping. We stayed at the villas and walked thru the camp ground. It didn't look too bad. Not many trees, but clean. You may want to look at the Short Stay in Monck's Corner. It is a navy area also. They have cabins, apt types and a nice camping area. It is about 25 minutes from Goose Creek. We stayed in the cabins for 3 nights before our son's June 5 power school grad. We drove back and forth several times a day to meet him for dinner or help him move. There is a swimming beach with lifeguard and boat to rent. Your son can make your reservations for you if you are not military. We are not - we were not able to rent the boats because of that. We got there on Monday afternoon - son had 3 hours mandatory study (it was the night before comps - everyone had it -he did great - graduated with distinction) so was not able to be with us to check in. When they asked for ID, my husband showed his drivers license and they looked at us like we were crazy and asked for military ID. Explained we were not - son at mandatory study in Goose Creek - lady at desk answered - Oh, that's OK, We love our kids down there and always try to take care of them. And gave us the keys. I got the info from the MWR website for the Naval Weapons Station - Charleston. Lots of good info. If you cannot find info let me know and I will look it up. Getting ready to head out to work and don't have time right now. There is a Santee Park and museum near by ($3. per person) which has a neat little musuem, huge visitor center and boardwalk thru marsh. We spend about 3 - 4 hours, took our lunch and ate at the picnic tables. Inexpensive day and fun too. By the way, the cabins were nice and wildlife neat and beautiful sunsets over the water.

Lori. We went to Disney World one year and my husband carried a beeper.. I kept wondering what he'd do if it went off while he was on the Tower of Terror.LOL

Melanie, I'd like to tell you it gets better when they get out of the Navy,but.... My husband has missed a number of anniversaries. Either he was in China, South Korea or Florida Power & Light had an issue. I actually watched him sit on the stairs and put FP&L back on line using a pocket calculator. They were losing $50,000 an hour at the time. So we just schedule our anniversaries when we can get out to dinner.

I just heard from Alex. He made 2nd class. We are all so happy for him.

Emily, Your brother will go to Nuke school in Goose Creek, SC. Then he will either stay in GC or go up to Saratoga Springs,New York for the next stage called Prototype. Prototype is where they actually get to run a nuclear reactor, putting what they learned in Nuke school to practical use. Hope that helps.

Tina, My son also wanted to be a SEAL but they wanted him to be a Nuke. I've never heard of a Nuke changing, but this is war time so maybe. My understanding has always been that their are two Navys. The Nuke Navy and the US Navy and moving between the two is nearly impossible. Especially since the Navy needs its Nukes. They may offer him incentives to stay in the program rather than switch. Alex wanted to switch while in BC and the Chiefs all but suggested mental health counseling. LOL

Linda K--you may have trouble parking. So be prepared for a walk. However, the walks in Charleston's downtown are fun. Haven't been to the fireworks, but it would be beautiful on that scenery backdrop!
