My son was release from NNPTC on a Friday morning and had to report in at Ballston Spa the following Tuesday.

Does anyone know how many travel and house hunting days they get when they transfer from Goose Creek to Ballston Spa?  I thought I saw it on here before but couldn't find it.  Thank you :)

Janet(NukeMM1338A)  For future reference Delta does offer military discounts even if you are not travelling on orders (so vacation/leave etc).  However, it is not a set discount like 5 or 10%.  It varies like the rest of airline pricing by route/direction/availability etc.  Kudos to your son for taking the initiative and covering his expenses.  Let him know to check Orbitz etc, but I would call the airline prior to booking a flight to see if they do have a good discount on that particular. flight.  As Mark said, military do get two free bags even travelling on their own funds, up to four bags when travelling on orders.

I don't know I my son got a discount but he did not have to pay any baggage fees. He also did not have to go through TSA security, just went to the military desk, showed his ID and he was waved through. At home they made him go through but he did not have to take off anything.

Thanks Mark .. I deleted my original post, but I appreciate your response.  My son assured me that he got he best price he could find but he did not call Delta.  I thought there were military discounts available.  He is paying for all of his own travel expenses and I want him to get the best price possible.  I'm glad to know that graduation day doesn't "count" as leave because he is maximizing time at home.  Yea for me!

Comment by Mark on August 5, 2013 at 4:29pm

Graduation day would not be charged as a day of leave.  After grad, they are considered to be on "special liberty" the rest of the work day.  Does Delta actually offer a military discount if you call them directly.  My dated experience plus what I've read is that these days, "military discounts" for air travel are largely myth - that the same rates are available to anyone, and at most military get a break on extra baggage fees.

Denise:  My son was in ELT training when my grandson was born.  He was there for the birth and could visit after his shift, but had no time off.  In fact, grandbaby was almost a year old before he took his leave allowed for paternity.  My daughter and I each took a week in BS to help out my DIL.

Hi all, went to A school graduation in GC. It was great. Got to meet my son's friends, instructors and even the director of the A school. Everyone was great. I am so proud of my son, and all of the sailors...They were a great looking bunch of sailors!! All proud and so good looking in their dress whites! I was very glad that I went...I was also glad to see there were a lot of family members that went to see their sailors graduate.

Congrats to your sailor J's Mom.  I felt such relief seeing the text, "I'm qualified"  It was 2 years and 2 days from his entry date in BC.

I see we are again at 2090 members.  I will still add names for anyone wanting to guess a date.

Dor,  Nancy Jo, Mary,   What's the status on our tristate?  I still have the 8th marked on my calendar.

Comment by Mark on August 4, 2013 at 4:09pm

Ah yes, it feels more like four days off because they come off of graveyard and usually head straight to bed to make the adjustment to normal dayshift hours, but they do have 120 hours exactly before coming back on days.  Anyway, not sure what FB means (I thought facebook) - but unless there's some personal questions, I think there are many others interested in what I might post about ELT training.  As long is it's informative, I don't think many feel that it clogs the feed,  You're welcome to send a friend request though. :)
