Hi moms,

Sharon, thanks for the update, i have read all about the Big E, it's all over the internet and actually was in our local paper today as well.  I was reading it to my hubby.  Said that Leon P said they were not afraid and would be going straight through the Strait.  I of course, immediately thought of you and said I sooo gotta get with Sharon.  Keep us informed on what the Big E does!  You know we'll be praying for you and for all those on board!  not only for Big E but for all the 11 ships we have that may possibly show the US force, over in the middle east.

Rebecca... My son's PIR was on the 20th and they were scheduled to fly out at 8:46am yesterday. There were plane issues and their flight was eventually cancelled (after we were at the airport for13 hours). Unfortunately, they are not on liberty so the airline put them up in a hotel and they are flying out tonight.

Due to the weather, their liberty ended at 7pm on Friday so cherish what time you get.

Connie, Our son is on the USS Enterprise and there has been NO OFFICIAL WORD given as to the ship and her crew going to that area at this time. The US Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta has been aboard the Big E and he spoke to the Sailors last night, as well as re-enlisted 21 Sailors. The article written in regards to the USS Enterprise states that the "Big E" will be deployed to the Middle East in support in MARCH. This is the schedule that we families know as of now. Our son and his shipmates aboard the "Big E" are currently underway in prepartion for the longer deployment in March. They are NOT going to that area now. The USS Lincoln just replaced the USS Stennis last week, they will have a few fleet together in March in support and to be sure Iran plays nice. As of now, Iran has backed off at this time.

Thank you for sharing this news, praying for all those aboard the USS Enterprise as it is totally appreciated. The news station didn't complete the story and has ruffled people up unnecessarily at this time. We, as part of the Enterprise family, we have been informed with correct information, I will pass it along as we hear this and it will be accurate. Thanks again!!!

Kathy I sent you a friend request.  My son is going to BS after the w/ of Feb 3 graduation. He, too, has to be there by 17.  He has a car and isn't sure whether anyone is driving up with him. What section is your son is  ( like 1106-1 or what?)

It would benefit mine to have someone in the car with him.  He has driven long distance many times, but always with another driver or a passenger. It is about a 16 hour trip from GC to BS. and will take 2-3 days with one driver as they have limited mileage per day to travel.  Provided the weather co-operates ( Mine is used to driving in NOrthern Indiana, Chicago and Michigan weather... )

As for a day off right now, Sailor son said that most of the hours he has free is being spent keeping his average up. ( somewhere between a 3.5-3.8) And  I know next weekend will be push and shove trying to get ready for comps.

Good Luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Just saw on the news (Fox, only watching because Joe Paterno died, honest!!) that the USS Enterprise will be headed to the Persian Gulf via Strait of Hormuz in a deliberate attempt to send a message to Iran. All you Navy Moms with sailors aboard, be strong and know that your fellow N4Ms are hoping no harm comes to your sons and daughters.

Mary, thank you.  I think I am worrying more than I should.  Can't help it.  Good to hear that they do try to keep roommates schedule on the same track.  The problem is that does not have a driver's license.  He was one of those kids that was content for the most part to not get a license when he was in high school.  Money was tight for us on the west coast and he could not find a part time job to help pay for insurance and expenses.  We did not have an extra car for him to drive or could buy him one either.  So,I drove him or he took public transportation when he was able to.  He does have his permit and has done a little practice driving.  May be better to get his license in New York if he is going to be there for a while.  My family is from Pennasylvania and will be closer to him, too.  Maybe he will be able to get that license in SC before he leaves.  He will still need a lot of driving practice, but he will have the license and then can get insurance in New York.  We will be able to come visit him and could possible help him buy a car.  Again, I know he has to figure things out.  I want him to get the housing figured out and then worry about studying for the last two weeks.  I will be there for graduation with my sister.   Thanks again.  I am not on this site often.  I only have limited time in the morning before my younger son gets up.  He has some disabilities and is challenging most of the time lately.  This site has been so helpful and supportive!

Comment by kathy on January 22, 2012 at 10:11am

Good Morning Everyone!  I am looking for help of any kind for my son.  He graduates power school on Feb 3 and thought he was on grad hold in Goose Creek until April, however, he misread, misunderstood or something the paperwork he signed.  Apparently, from what I could get from him last night, he has to be in Ballston Spa by Feb 17th.  Not sure the start date for his prototype.  He had made plans to be there by April and was going to use Grad Hold in Goose Creek to take care of a few things like getting his driver's license (long story).  He did go to Chief and asked about getting orders changed, but Chief told him he could not do anything.  I don't know how the chain of command works, but he may not have wanted to do anything either.  I'm not sure.  So, we told our son to start making plans now to leave in Feb.  I told him to find a place to live first and that we would help him get there somehow.  The kicker is that he really needs that driver's license and a car.  He is pretty much stuck with these orders, right?  We told him to try to get them changed, but not if it is going to cause major issues with those in charge.  I told him things happen for a reason and we should just push forward.  He said he knows some  of the guys going up to Ballston Spa in Feb and I told him that housing was his first concern.  Hopefully, he will be able to hitch a ride back in forth to the base there until he is driving and has a car.  The good thing is that we recently moved back to Maine and will only be about a 5 hour drive from him instead of being in California. I don't want him to stress too much these last two weeks of power school.  I have heard that the power school comp exam is tough.   If anyone has any suggestions, or has a son or daughter leaving for Ballston Spa in February and might be able to help him out, I am sure he would be grateful for the assistance.  I, too, would be grateful for the help.  I did not sleep well last night worrying about his situation.  I know he has to figure it out, but I'm his mom and am just plain worried.  Oh, the navy has someone there at Goose Creek to help with the logistics of moving and all that is involved, right?  Thank you for listening!

Sherri, glad your son is doing well, I also hope you make it to graduation.

Johanns, I hope you find some other moms from the Missouri. My son is on the Seawolf and they have a group, however no one comments on it: ( . The boat has just recently got out of drydock so maybe that is why. This seems to be the best place for answers.
