That is good news, kathy! My son phased up 2 weeks ago too - they do enjoy that freedom. I'll pray that your sailor keeps his wits about him...;)

Good Evening!  My son spoke to my husband today and he has had a good week.  He did well on his pfa, his electricity test, his math test and inspection today.  He earned the priviledge of wearing his "civies" on the weekends. So, I am asssuming he is a happy sailor right now.  Hope he is behaving. . . . .

Kat, I haven't been on much lately.  We have been watching the grandkids for a week while their mommy and daddy got a much needed vacation.  But there hasn't been much time to get on N4M with two toddlers running around.  So very excited for you being able to drive your son's truck back to him and spend additional time with him the end of March.  I so tried to talk my son into letting us do that, but no such luck.  Have a great time!

I hope they have additional hours since nukes are in classes during those times.

Taxes again... yeah, the "orders" request sounds ridiculous to me, too. The whole point of having an accountant do our taxes (our farm return is 38 pages!!) is so we don't have to stress over this stuff and can just keep on working. If we weren't claiming our son this last time, as a dependant, I would have let him do the TurboTax thing himself ... but he had a bunch of interest income statements plus his summer job W2 so I figured I'd be nice and have our accountant take care of his tax return. Jeesh!! It shouldn't be this complicated to file for an 18-year-old guy!

In our case it was the ex that tried "beating us to the punch" and so when we filed, we were told that the daughter was already claimed and filed.  We told them that we had proof we had the right and then after much filling of forms and hassle, we finally got our return back and she ended up getting a call directly from IRS and they told her that if she ever tried that again they would press charges (or something).  She ended up having to pay back all of the money that they paid her plus penalties and fees.  Think they scared her straight as we didn't have any other issues with her after that.

From the IRS.GOV site

Civilian taxpayers covered by the relief provisions described here should put the words "COMBAT ZONE" and their deployment date in red at the top of their tax returns. Members of the military do not need to write "COMBAT ZONE" and their deployment date on the tops of their tax returns because the U.S. Department of Defense informs the IRS about members in the combat zone.

Hi!  My son is heading to GC on 2/15.  I was wondering if there is internet access (wifi or ethernet) connections in the dorm room (what is it called?) Thanks
