Tawnya--don't know if there is a "typical." My son had to wait about 10 days for classes. However, the dorm setting is great, and the food is even better. And, once he gets his cell phone and computer shipped to him, you will feel much better.

Our son called--said he slept in late--so guess all was OK and he was going to check in about lunch. He did get to talk to my Mom--while she was a bit confused, I could tell it meant a lot to her to hear his voice. Thank God for cell phones.

Just got off the phone with my son. Said they can go off base and he was going to Waffle House as soon as we got done talking. Said they had watched some movies and college football games Friday night. I'm glad things were not worse.

Chaplain Kelly - thanks so much for keeping us informed (since my sailor has not). We hunkered down for Gustav last week and sailor son was here for Hurricane Katrina, so I guess he's not worried. We live on the Miss. Gulf Coast - I pass the Seebee base everyday on the way to work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping us updated. Melody Brooks

I needed the laugh about the Reeses. Father, you better be ready for a stock of them to come in whenever we visit!
My sailor called me at the ICU unit at the hospital to check in about my Mom. He sounded really OK about the storm. And, bless his mature heart--his first question was "Mom, are you doing OK--I just wanted to check up on you."
Love you all!

John--The Galley must be awesome. I heard about "new potatoes boiled with rosemary" "fried catfish" and "REAL Boston Cream Pie!" Wish I heard as much about his classes. He was pretty tired on the Wed. of his first week, so hope all is going well with A School. Hopefully with a long weekend, we will hear from him again.
God Bless our Nukes and their Moms!

I just found this website today, wish I had known about it last fall when my son left for boot camp. He has been at Goose Creek since the middle of January. After being at Great Lakes during the coldest time of year, Goose Creek was a good change. We did get down to visit him in July and had the better part of three days with him. He sounds very ready to start classes next week. He is wondering, as we are too, if they get time off at Christmas. He has had different answers and one needs to know in time to make travel arrangements. Anyone know the policies for leave during that time or the time frame?

Sally, Jeff has been at Goose Creek since May 2.

Hey Stephanie, Matt has Jeff beat! Jeff has a 3.87. How cool is that? So proud of both of them.

Good morning everyone, Have to share my great news. Due to his good grades, Jeff was granted a 3 day liberty and will be home for Labor Day weekend. We are thrilled as we didn't expect to see him until Dec. 15. WHOPPEEEE!!! Pat

Wow--steak and shrimp for Friday lunch? What an A school!! And, Boston Cream Pie to boot!
He's ready for classes to start, but taking advantage of his cleaning time, getting his bearings, etc.
Told him to watch out for those palmetto bugs...
