KiIling. me. want.to.know.NOW.how.comps.are.

I have sewing that I COULD be doing here after school gets out, If I didn't have a technology meeting.....  at least it would get my mind off things.....

I think I have just as many pins and needles under my fanny today as those waiting on those scores.... and waiting...

I am anxiously waiting to hear from my son about his power school comp exam! Praying that all went well. I am being told that I worry too much about him these days. Can't stop it! To moms with kids in tough situations, keep loving them. I have a 17 year old son with disabilities & teenage "young punk" stuff. It's tough some days. Hang in there. .

Praying for those in 1106 taking the "big test" right now.  Looking forward to seeing all those dress blues on Friday morning.

Oh, Polly, your story of your FIL is so touching.  My FIL was a gruff taciturn man with marshmallow insides.  After my husband and I had been married some years, he showed up one day with a little white envelope and kind of tossed it in front of me saying "This is for you."  Inside were his late wife's wedding rings.  Meant the world to me.  When my husband and I divorced he asked for his mother's rings and I said no.  I told him I would put them aside for one of our children and would protect and treasure them but they were to me from FIL and they were precious to me.  My husband said OK.  I was so lucky with my FIL.  I miss him still and he's been gone almost 20 years.

Those doilies are absolutely gorgeous!! My grandma made hundreds if not thousands of doilies but I could never quite master it.  I can crochet a mean afghan but nothing else has ever worked out.

On the other hand, Dtr#3 is a natural at both crochet and knitting.  So far she can make anything.  Last year she crocheted herself the cutest beret hat for cold weather so this year I asked her to make one for me.  She couldn't find the original pattern so she tried another. When I put on the hat it tended to want to stand up like a stove-pipe hat and I looked like Abe Lincoln.  I love AL but I don't want to look like him.  I managed to squash it down but it will never look like hers. Story of my life. <sigh> Of course, I must wear it anyway.

When I first learned to sew I decided to make my new husband a robe. Knowing nothing about fabric I picked up some kind of stretchy fleece which was a disaster from the get-go. When he opened his gift at a gathering with neighbors, he put it on and looked like a Buddhist monk. We laughed so hard we cried and had stomach aches.  Robe (and husband) are both history but the memory lives on.  :^)

Wow, you take a couple days off and boy how things change around here.

The doilies are beautiful.  My MIL does the most amazing doilies and yes, dishcloths and we too, beg for them for holiday gifts.  She taught me how to make them, as I crochet and sew as well, but my current Patience Status does not qualify me to crochet.   A bit tense and it shows in my stitching.  ( I weave baskets also and you can tell the stress level I was at when looking at my baskets.)

MIL also makes these really neat covers for plain Christmas bulbs.  They just give a plain color bulb (ornament) a victorian look.  She has made me several to cover my antique glass ornaments.
Here is looking to see some of you later this week .  Sailor son called last night to express a bit of panic at taking comps today.  Not one to usually be nervous or panicked, I believe that a bit of anxiety is healthy.

I do think birth order does play a factor in many things.  We say that Sailor son, who is self-assured and cocky, was the science experiment.... College boy who is self- assured, but more reserved and 4 years younger, was the variable in the experiment.    ( Oh Gosh,... is it obviously Science Fair season??)
