Michimom--If you can get to GC in May, you will be in time for the Spoleto Festival in Charelston!  Great way to see many of the historic spots in all their splendor.  Take care.  Carol

Michimon, We just got back from dropping our son at the airport. He didn't want us to wait at the gate with him, so we said our goodbyes in the terminal before the security scanners. I had to fight back the tears...didn't expect that.

queenbee- My fiance kept telling his family (they were joking about how he wasn't glowing yet) that nukes are exposed to less radiation that normal people are exposed to radiation in everyday living (sun, harsh toxins in the air, etc) because they have a lot of protective gear when they're actually around the reactor. The reactor is in a well enclosed space to protect everyone else on the ship too. You and your daughter shouldn't be too worried from what i've heard.

However, I have heard that all nukes have girls only :P

Hugs michimom!  I know it's never easy to say goodbye.  I hope something works out for you to see him on your birthday :)  Happy New Year!

OK, now I'm in the somewhat depressed mom stage.  Just got back from the airport, seeing him off.  This was harder than the last time, since this time I went to the airport with him.  Somehow it doesn't seem as bad if I kiss him goodbye from home.  And who knows when we will see him next?  If not sooner, maybe we can head down to GC for my birthday in early May.

Felt bad that my son used his last day of leave today being at GC, but it's actually been a good idea since he's fighting our traditional family Christmas cold/sorta flu and is spending the day on base doing laundry & napping. He hopes to rally enough tonight to watch the  NHL Winter Classic at 8 (yay, Pittsburgh & Sidney Crosby!) then can sleep in Sunday until muster at noon.

Happy New Years everyone!  Since my sailor took the red-eye from the West to East Coast starting on the 30th and arriving in GC mid-day on the 31st, he text me about 9pm GC time to wish me a Happy New Year.  He was just too tired to stay awake any longer.  I talked with him again this morning for a little bit.  He is headed into town to get a badly needed hair cut.  He didn't want to get it cut here, because a military cut here is for Marines not Sailors.  Can't really blame him.  He likes to keep what precious hair is allowed. :-)  It feels good to know that he still includes me in his world even from a distance.

Is there anyone here from PIR 12/03 Ship 017?
Comment by Emily-aaronsgirl11 on January 1, 2011 at 1:30pm

Christ mom- My phone will never let me post, either! Made me very upset one night.

He's gone. NNPTC has taken him yet again. Hopefully I can start planning a birthday/ spring break trip out there soon!

Hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season with their sailors, family, and friends!

Just returned from the airport and we did stay with him until he got on the plane.  I asked him if he wanted us to stay with him in the airport and he said he didn't care.  So we had breakfast with him and then sat and talked a bit til he got on the plane.
