This is the final test for your SRs.  It is an overnight 12 hr drill that tests them on all they have learned and may encounter when deployed on a ship.  It takes place on the Disney-created USS…Continue

Proud NaVy Mom: The only PFA that matters is the final one.  The RDCs will work all of the SRs that do not pass the first or second one until they are sure that they will pass the final one.  There is still plenty of time for improvement.  While I was in basic, I never heard of anyone being so sick that they were not able to go through BS-21, but I was aware that it was a possibility.  Everyone gets sick while they are there, with people coming from all over the US, there are germs that a lot of people have not been exposed to and their immune systems have to get used to them.  I was sick the whole time I was there, and I also hated going to medical to be seen, I just had to push through it.  Eventually, I got used to not having a whole lot of energy and the other side effects of being ill, and I did fine.  I'm sure that your SR will do fine also.  If he does get bad enough to where he has trouble participating, the RDCs will force him to go to medical to be seen.

Proud NaVy Mom; 02/928 My son is in the situation, I too worry about it. I have to believe that the RDC's will help them.

Congratulations to all of you who received phone calls today!  I know it meant the world to you to finally get to talk to your SR.  It made all the difference in the world to me.  It does take some of the worry out of the equation.  There are still things that I am very concerned about but his enjoying boot camp definitely isn't one of them!!!  It will be a long wait for the BS-21 call to come but they'll be so busy that it will be worth it.

D for Megan: I'm concerned because my son didn't pass one of his PFA tests. Do the RDCs work with them to help them out?  This is so important to him that he just has to pass it.  I also read on the RTC FB page last night that one dad's SR was NOT allowed to participate in BS-21 because they were deemed too sick.  My SR has been sick the entire time but refuses to see anyone for treatment.  Did you see this happen when you were there?  That opens up the doorway to a whole other set of worries...plus instead of his SR being able to call and tell him that he heard it from someone else's SR.  I didn't get a call home when my son didn't pass is PFA test.  Forgive me for rambling but I am very good at worrying!

I just got a call today too!  She had just finish speaking with her mom, so she was in tears when I got on the phone with her.  I made sure to stay positive, and by the end of the call, she was sounding really good.  She's worried that she's going to get fat in boot camp; guess that they're not working out as much as she was expecting, and of course they keep them busy enough that they're always hungry.

I actually had the same problem in boot camp, I had a better workout regime before I joined the Navy, and got pretty out of shape while I was in.

She's not a fan of basic, but realizes that it's not the real Navy, so she's determined to get through it.  She never has done well with people yelling at her, so I'm not really that surprised that she hates boot camp, but over all she seems to be doing really well.

Now, I'm off to write her another insanely long letter to her...

Joanne, I just got a call this morning too.  My son sounded great!  other than he is still bothered by the "bug" they all seem to have.  Nevertheless, he passed his PFA and is so happy and excited.  He was also able to call his Dad, who is out of town, so all in all we are happy campers today.  Best to all of you.

I just received a 15 minute call from my SR!!  She sounded great and we finally got that chance to connect and converse!!  I answered on the first ring this time!!!! They will begin week 4 training this week, endearingly called hell week because of the amount of inspections and tests.  To be able to say good luck and atta-girl was priceless!  All the best to Training Group 28 SR's!

My son's ship is dry docked.  So obviously that ship's crew is stateside. I just sent him a priority mail box for his birthday to the FPO address.  Thank goodness I decided to wire money into his bank acct rather than enclosing a check.  Because...I tracked the box through USPS...it only took 3 days to get into the Navy's hands.  Then it took 17 days from that time to reach my son!  So...heads up if you are sending things that need to be there at a certain time...send EARLY!  Of course, if sending for a deployed ship, not much you can do about timeliness

IT can also include bear crawls for hours...my son's division did that one night for 2 hours. It is really up to the RDC what type of IT they do.  My son said that one guy in his division messed up....so the RDCs made that guy sit down and watch his entire division do IT for 2 hours.  My son felt bad for the guy...the guy ended up in tears that his shipmates were paying the price for his mistake.  But I bet he never did it again!  You will see that your new sailors are in AWESOME shape at PIR...now you know why!  :-)

IT - Intensive Training. Lots of sit-ups, push-ups etc. How much and how long depends on the infraction and the RDC.
