About sending Care Packages to APO's/FPO's.

Whew...I hardly ever go to the post office...but these last 5 months? I'm a regular...

You can also go to the USPS website and order directly there too. I personally prefer the Large (12x12x5 1/2 - my concept of Lg and the USPS differ!) Priority Mail boxes in a bundle of ten or twenty-five. They are free! I like these because they are the "America Supports You" ones that also say APO/FPO Flat rate Box. Flat rate is 12.95 (normally 14.95). I sent one of the small (5 3/8x5 3/8x1 5/8) and flat rate is 5.20. You can insure it also.

I do not like filling out forms! I grab a bunch of customs forms, and the two kinds of insurance ones so I can fill out at home. At least prefill the addy's. I just use regular strapping tape.

You may only send packages Priority mail to APO/FPO's.

There are a few businesses that offer FREE shipping to APO/FPO's too. I sent my husband books from B&N and it was free shipping (I think no tax too!) and they got there within a week. Hickory Farms does it, a few beef jerky places, Jelly Belly. I spent a day "searching".

It's also a good idea to go to USPS because they give you the guidelines on what you "can" and "cannot" send. This will differ for regions. For instance - no pork products to middle east. I had to dig around to get to the "biggee" with all the codes. Was checking out sending OTC meds.

Thanks ProudNaVyMom! That's good to know about sending his stuff to "A" schoo that way l! I'd rather use two, even three at 12.95, than pack a 12x12x12 box and $40 or $50 dollars...except...ugh...the forms!

ProudNavyMom:  They'll get it!  Don't worry...my son's group had lots of IT also...and they made it!  There are times when some of the SRs wonder if the division will ever get it together, ---and then they do.  You will see that....at PIR!  It is phenomenal!  So ...get ready!

Diannep - as always thanks a bunch.  I swear I think you past boot camp moms know EVERYTHING!!!  Personally I think my son would agree that he's already been through hell week and it isn't fun.  Their division seems to get punished a lot.  If they don't band together and start straightening out the ones causing the trouble it might end up affecting all of them.  That's what I'm concerned about.  Between the punishment and security duty every other night I don't think he's getting a whole lot of sleep anyway... :(  They also get punished alot with Intensive Training.  If that keeps happening it will be just like he told one of his friends:  "I'm gonna come home ripped like a pair of American Eagle jeans"!!!! LOL.

Is there any others in this group that have SR's going to Culinary A-school?? Well the new school is at Fort Lee in VA, but in my sons letter he said he has been told that the first two weeks of his A-school are going to be done in GL then he will go to VA for 5 weeks. This means that he will have all weekend and monday liberty. I called public affares and they said "YES" this is true the first two weeks of Culinary A-school will be in GL! So now I have to change our reservations AGAIN......

Julie:  You give them your SR's divison number when you order, and they will make sure that the correct flag is on the tshirt!
